Steam Link app now available for the Linux desktop

Good to know, although I wished it didn't use flatpak.

Oh well, running Steam on my headless desktop and streaming games to my nine year old laptop works fine (at least for most games) so I won't complain.

OpenLoco is a free and open source re-implementation of Chris Sawyer's Locomotion

Wow, I've loved Transport Tycoon since the 90s and I've never even heard of Locomotion. So is it any good? How does it compare toe OpenTTD? Although I am afraid that, compared to the state that OpenTTD is now, Locomotion has no chance.

Plasma 5.21 rolls out as one of the best looking Linux desktops available

Pretty cool. Will take some time until it gets into Debian, though.

I always liked KDE. I don't know why. Maybe because it was default on Knoppix when I tried Linux for the first time about twenty years ago but I always had a soft spot for it.

Over time I used fluxbox and then the awesome enlightenment DEs, e16 and e17. Unfortunately the alpha version of the last e17 desktop environment I tried ran more stable than the subsequent beta and release versions so I switched back to KDE.

FOSS soft-body physics simulator Rigs of Rods has a new release

Quoting: TheRiddickI like the name. There are a few of these vehicle physics simulation games abouts these days.

The best one from what I understand is the Spintires one and its siblings because it actually has objectives and gameplay going on (and multiplayer).

Having a sandbox mode editor is all good and well but going that extra step to make a actual fun game and story out of it all is whats needed to really stand out these days.
BeamNG.drive is pretty good, too. From what I understand is that one or several of the developers of Rigs of rods went on to make BeamNG. Unfortunately there is no Linux version but it works pretty well with Proton.

I remember trying to build Rigs of rods from source on my Debian system and failing miserably haha. Luckily times have changed and I can enjoy this game without problems. It's really, really good. :)

Free cross-platform game engine Defold is now on Steam

Quoting: hardpenguinIf it wasn't for Unity being the current industry standard, I would love to spend some time with Defold and Godot as well 😢
If we go by marketshare Windows is the standard of consumer operating systems yet here we all are using Linux. You should use what you want to use regardless of what the lemmings are telling you to use.
I would interpret the original quote more in the direction of "If I am looking to work at a studio, they're more likely to want Unity experience than Godot or Defold". Which is probably true.
If you're a one-(wo)man studio you're obviously right. I looked at Unity and couldn't wrap my head around how art-centric its processes are. Godot is much more up my alley (and I don't have to read a novel-length Terms of Usage document either), so that's what I am using.
What do you mean by art-centric?

I was thinking about toying with a game engine and Godot immediately comes to mind but I totally forgot about Unity.

Open-world voxel sandbox game Rising World is going through a rewrite

I will never understand why someone would willingly want to write something in Java.

There was a tool for digitising plots. It was written in Java. When you clicked on "File" there was an error message and upon clicking on "File" again nothing happened. You could do apt-get purge and then redownload it and still nothing would happen when you clicked on "File".

Not to mention how incredibly wasteful Java is when it comes to your resources.

Good to see that they realised their mistake.

Looks interesting. I am surprised that the guy who made Don't be patchman made another game. After reading the steam forums where he talked about the huge risk he took and how it didn't really pay off I thought that was it. Glad to see he came back.

I think I've played Stardew Valley for hundreds of hours. It doesn't look like this game will really add anything new. Rather I am looking forward to the new Stardew Valley update so I can play it for a third time yaaay!

Pretty cool. Alas my T530 that I bought AGES ago still works like a charm. I remember I had to install Debian testing back in the day to get it working at all.
