Quoting: rustybroomhandleBut anyway, "gamers" is just people who play games. You're not some special anything.
Indeed. I find it strange, that gamers are put into some category that implies some behavioral or social attributes. It's simply wrong, and I think it comes from the old and false stereotype of "adults don't play games", from those who had no appreciation for games as a form of art. Today this notion for the most part is debunked, but "gamers" as some special category still persists because of it. In essence, it's like saying "book readers" or "music listeners". Would you make some social categorization based on that? I wouldn't, it's way too broad to make such generalizations. Same thing with games.

I didn't finish the game yet, but I haven't seen anything like described above. The game itself is great, I especially like small interactions with the environment.

Quoting: slaapliedjeI'd guess it's missing libwayland-dev.

But yeah, why wayland? That's odd...
Vulkan layers can work with WSI. But it can probably be disabled: https://github.com/volca02/spoof_vendorid/blob/master/CMakeLists.txt#L13 [External Link]

Quoting: ShmerlThey should just release it for Linux already.
They should at least talk to Valve about an official whitelist. Until the vulkan backend came out, this was a platinum title. Vulkan has really hurt its performance on Linux, so it's nice to see workarounds like this.

Maybe one day they'll cross that threshold and give us the game natively. Fingers crossed.
I wonder what exactly are Valve doing, in cases when they know games already have a Vulkan renderer. Do they incentivize developers in any way to release native Linux versions? I feel like there is a major opportunity here, that Valve could put resources in. Especially, with Stadia pushing more developers to implement Vulkan renderer, Valve can direct that tide into native Linux releases, but they need to do something, it won't happen automatically on sufficient scale.

Steam Play arrived on Linux one year ago, some thoughts

Quoting: GuestHow much has Proton/Wine hurt Linux gaming is what I would still like to know.
Not significantly. Recent decline in Linux releases is not related to Wine, it's related to market saturation and is really something that had to eventually happen. It's not a permanent thing, rather market reacting on too many developers per certain amount of users, which translates into declining sales (supply outpacing demand). The market will balance back the same way, if supply will fall down and demand will grow further. So don't panic.

What's the story with GOG release?

I don't think Stadia requires using Visual Studio (would be stupid if it does). They mention it to lure Windows only developers probably.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyMy understanding is, the excuse is they don't feel like it and some Linux fans were mean to them last time when they screwed it up.
Those aren't real excuses, when their CEO said this almost six years ago:

If Steam will deliver a constant Linux environment, call it SteamOS or anything like that, we would love to have our game there, because the more people play our games, the better for us.
It applies today even better than back then. Their valid excuse could be high costs of making a port, vs rather small Linux market. But this is now sidestepped, due to Stadia release. So no excuses left :)

is that it's ditching the rogue-like die and repeat mechanics. Instead, it's going to be a full open-world exploration based story experience.
Very welcome change! Looking forward to DRM-free Linux release. I'll back it if they'll crowdfund it with GOG release pledge.
