They’ve already won the phone market, the server market, and the professional workstation market. We’re just bringing them to the Linux desktop which has traditionally refused to adopt new technologies in a timely manner.
Thanks, but no, thanks. I don't need my desktop to be a container. And that's not a new technology by any means either. Immutable distros exist for years, for example OpenWRT. They have their uses like embedded scenarios indeed, but it's counter productive on a general purpose computer. Turning it into appliance and then looking for loopholes out of it when you realize you need a general purpose computer and not an appliance is a somewhat strange idea.

Yeah, not sure. There is no such concept in winewayland.

Quoting: JarmerSo .............. business as usual for them. Shame.
I think he literally wasn't involved in their decision making until just when he bought it back. So it's too early to jump to conclusions just because he gave the regular non answer.

But I agree it's worse than clear yes.

He basically took over whatever GOG were deciding, so it's up to him now.

I think it's good — looks like they made GOG private so they can pursue their own vision and not be pressured by shareholders of CDPR.

I.e. may be they can spend on Linux now more, while before shareholders could tell them not to prioritize Linux support. Just my guess. In the end, it's really up to what they want.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThe point is, now they'll be sitting under some rock without their games. That will push them to take some kind of action.
Quoting: EikeI think there was a free upgrade way from some Windows usually installed with 32 bits until today. Most people do not reinstall their OS if they see no reason. Most people probably never ever install a new OS. (Not sure if the latter applies for gamers as well.)
Yeah, I mean they aren't blocked or anything. They'll have to reinstall an OS and more likely recent Windows won't work there anyway, not because of 32-bit, but because Windows has way shorter span for hardware support than Linux and the hardware that's still running 32-bit Windows even if it's 64-bit itself would be too old for recent Windows by now. So that will motivate them to install Linux or get new hardware.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI'm not sure that is a better question, at least for what I was wondering about. You can run 32-bit Windows on 64-bit hardware, can you not? And quite a lot of the 32-bit Windows out there may be that case, and for that case my surmise applies.
Point is that if anyone has 64-bit hardware, all the above is a non issue. They were sitting under some rock if they were running 32-bit OS on it until today.

Quoting: LoudTechieB. Proton doesn't seem to use the WoW build [External Link]. This could be for backwards compatibility(reconfiguring all existing Wine prefixes without triggering anti-cheat blocks) and OpenGL preformance [External Link].
Proton is often behind Wine with such features. Wine already fixed the issue with OpenGL performance.
