Interesting, though I'd say the first game is good and doesn't need a remake, but if they want to make one - why not.
And since it's Unreal Engine 5 they can as well make a native Linux version. What happened to such idea?

Quoting: undeadbydawnThis is a game that you need to experience unspoiled (in as much as that's now possible). There are critical - and very subtle - points that lose a lot of their impact if you know the story alreadyRight, that's what I've heard too. I've just set up the Umineko Project port - it's pretty good.

With Nvidia the situation is even worse, because their blob firmware now is replacing a lot of functionality of the kernel driver. I've read somewhere firmware itself is like 40 MB or something. It's crazy.
So don't buy their sudden change of heart in the sense of "we now have an open kernel module". May be they do, but they also ballooned their firmware blob to be the black box driver controlling the GPU, basically moving stuff out of the kernel into the firmware blob. So they just don't care much about the kernel part now to make it open, their main part still remains a blob.

So AMD is way better in this regard despite some blob being present.

One of the blockers for open firmwmare for GPUs is the DRM garbage that's being pushed by media industry. I.e. all that HDCP. In order to have an open firmware, AMD will need to support two versions, one without DRM and one with DRM. And bean counters don't see a point in such extra expense.

I've heard the anime spoils the story and it's better to play the games first. But that can be subjective.

I hope radv will finally get ray tracing in shape. So far it's missing some features even for RDNA 2.
These cards should have hardware AV1 encoder.

NVK is a new open source Mesa Vulkan driver for NVIDIA GPUs

This is about just the Vulkan implementation, not an announcement of an upstream kernel module? Unless I'm missing something.

Quoting: mr-victoryIt needs the GSP (GPU system processor) firmware, which is provided by Nvidia since open kernel modules announcement. So we have reclock support in this driver as well. Open kernel modules aren't upstreamed.Do you mean this firmware already works with current nouveau kernel module or it needs that custom (not upstreamed) open kernel module from Nvidia still?

It still needs the kernel driver with reclocking though, right? That didn't get upstream yet.

A question to experts:
I tried installing Skyrim (Wine+dxvk) but it was capping framerate at 60 fps or even 30 on ultra settings (like what?).
I added script extender and Havok fixes:
https://skse.silverlock.org/ [External Link]
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/18160 [External Link]
But that didn't help and configuration for the latter has no effect. Any idea if anything else is needed or is Linux specific?
