Valve puts up a Steam Deck trailer and the head of Xbox seems to really like it

Quoting: CatKillerNot really. DX12 was a thing before he got put in charge of Xbox, and Xbox being a thing to push DirectX ("DirectX box") was a thing long before he was in charge.
He became the head Xbox / gaming division in MS in 2014. That's before Vulkan was even announced and during the important period when Mantle was presented by AMD to the industry as a prototype design of a common GPU API. So he totally was in charge of making the decision whether to collaborate or to push lock-in. And we know what MS did.

Even if you say someone else (shortly) before him decided to make DX12 from Mantle, he totally could scrap that and make MS collaborate with Khronos on Vulkan which was still in development phase. He didn't.

Given Phil Spencer is probably the reason MS didn't back Vulkan but pushed DX12 lock-in instead, it's interesting that he has some positive comments about Steam Deck which relies on breaking that very lock-in.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyWhat all this makes me wonder is, are there egg rolls out there that are . . . inglorious?

To be honest, in my neck of the woods we switched to calling them "spring rolls" maybe 30 years ago at least.
Sounds like some cyberpunk themed menu selection.

Proton infused glorious eggroll with staged wine.

Quoting: scaineWas it an "unwritten rule" that your game would be thrown out of Steam if you tried to do so?
It could be an antitrust issue if they do that (i.e. some kind of price fixing).

Things are getting complicated. We had Wine, then we got Wine-staging since some stuff was hard to add to Wine. Then we got Proton since some stuff was hard to add even to Wine-staging. Then we got Proton-GE since some stuff was hard to add even to Proton. What's next?

AMD and Valve working towards a new CPU performance scaling design for AMD CPUs

Quoting: orochi_kyoI need a new FULL AMD PC now.
With shortages it can still be tricky, but it's getting better gradually. Looking at the trends in GOL stats, shortages slowed down the switch to AMD especially for GPUs, but I expect it to pick up pace as things improve.

USB keyboards support n-key rollover just fine for the reference (not all of them, but some).

Quoting: peta77What means in general? No GPU, no matter how much power it needs, gets noisy when displaying the desktop, simple applications or Videos. How loud does it get when it's under full load and how annoying is the sound? Like there's graphically demanding games out there that don't have constant action, are rather quiet and then it matters.
I mean under full load obviously. Under idle load fans don't rotate at all, so it's completely quiet. I prefer quiet operation in general and I don't have any complaints about this card in this regard. But if you want exact values like noise measurements, you'd have to search for some reviews.

Quoting: peta77this sounds like it will make a lot of noise... when this power demands increase go on like that at some point i'll have to get an additional powerline just to run the GPU of one computer...

One weird thing: the online shop I buy my stuff at lists Linux as supported system for the 6800XT but not for the 6900XT...
I have Sapphire Pulse RX 6800 XT - it's really quiet in general.

Linux support listed for the card doesn't mean much. They are all supported by amdgpu and Mesa by now.

GPU situation is starting to improve slightly, but I think realistically it won't recover fully at least until 2022 or when new TSMC foundries will start working whenever that will be.
