Waiting for their GOG release, which should happen after their success, no doubt. Or should it?
Windows 'not an emulator' compatibility tool Wine 6.4 out now

Quoting: Purple Library GuyMaybe, but I'm pretty sure the people who named Wine would beg to differ on that. I think the position would be something along the lines of, an emulator for Windows would be something that basically reproduced the Windows API-whatever in userspace and had Windows programs run in it, whereas what Wine was doing was just translating the Windows program's requests so Linux would understand them.Or you could apply duck typing here. I.e. if it behaves like Windows, it emulates Windows. How exactly it does it underneath is really not very important for the program for which Wine acts as Windows environment (thus emulating Windows).

In a wider sense it means any kind of imitation. So in the first sense Wine is not emulating hardware. But in the second sense Wine is emulating Windows.

Quoting: PinguinoCould anyone give me a one-sentence summary on the difference between emulators and translation layers? I've done some searching and I think I got the gist of it (low-level emulators are basically trying to recreate the emulated OS instead of just wrapping individual functions), but I couldn't see much distinction between high-level emulation and a translator. In narrow sense emulator can mean something that emulates hardware. I.e. imagine something that implements one CPU architecture in software to run on another CPU architecture (example - Qemu).
In a wider sense it means any kind of imitation. So in the first sense Wine is not emulating hardware. But in the second sense Wine is emulating Windows.

Quoting: Guesti really don't understand the excitement over dlss. yeah, it tries to be intelligent about how it reduces quality, but it still reduces quality.I don't think it's something to be exited about either. If anything, Nvidia introduced this idea to have a longer time of arketed exclusive "hot features", because they lost the advantage of actually having better hardware already.

Quoting: CatKillerI think you're right that AMD are working on some kind of upscaling thing, but that isn't it. That's rendering at higher resolutions and then scaling down - "get the clarity of 1080p and the framerate of 4K!" - rather than the other way round, which is what people want.May it's using the same thing for a specific case ("virtual"). But what AMD call "super resolution" is the upscaling idea.

DLSS is DOA being Nvidia only. AMD are working on cross GPU solution that will work everywhere. Once that is ready may be Wine can pick it up.

Looks pretty cool. The only thing that looked a bit off - character animations looked limited like only facing left and right and never forward or back from the viewer's perspective which makes character movement unnatural when they move in those directions.

Quoting: slaapliedjeI have to ask... is this popularity solely based on the game only being 20 bucks?I've played the prototype when it was on itch.io before it was pulled. It's a fun game. I'd say it's a combination of factors. Fun game mechanics, interesting setting and increased interest in gaming in general due to the pandemic. So the game hit the stride.
