Syber discounted their Steam Machine line and most are now sold out

However small the quantity might have been, I can't imagine it selling out that quick to be a bad sign under those circumstances.
Some of you guys seriously need to hang up some of those motivational posters at home.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleHopefully this doesn't mean they sold poorly and that there was only one production run. They are testing the waters right now meaning there was probably only one production run assessed from the beginning, with the primary goal of getting an idea of the demand.

Thea: The Awakening, a turned-based strategic survival game being given away for Linux

This is a lot of work in midst of their 16h, 7 days a week Windows workload.
They just couldn't be bothered to take money for it despite us reassureing them that this game runs better than a lot of stuff we paid 20 bucks for.
Then, following that love-in of a support thread, let me cite Khash, one of the devs:

Quoting: BeamboomIt's kinda sad that our platform is so tiny, so insignificant, that they just give a build away cause they can't be bothered with it. It stings. You're mistaken on this. They created an extra Linux branch and actually support it with updates following our feedback, which they answer promptly.

I just managed to put together parts and it endup I have now another computer. its not great, but it can function to some degree for linux experiments. Its still long way to have it all right especially in so little spare time allocated to that, but there is a progressThey clearly don't care about mass, but about quality of feedback and so should we. Then we'll be getting exactly the kind of devs we need, Windows can keep said 9-5 zombies for all I care (you know, the kind of dev who whines that Linux users give too much feedback).

I'm glad that you found this little gem too. It's a great game, a very innovative mixture of different genres.
The attitude of the devs of course is the icing on the cake. It's actually things like these from which I can tell good software-engineers who love their craft from the usual 9 to 5 zombies who just love their excuses.

For some reason people didn't quite listen to Gabe Newell when he stated what SteamOS was all about.
Did he claim better driver support? More Games? That DirectX 12 would suck over OpenGL 4?
No! What he claimed he will do is to end walled gardens. A machine and OS you own, meaning you won't get sued if you hack it to build a freaking robot with it. Hotz, anyone?
No, with that you don't make a glorious entrance with fanfare and dancing babes and surely not with exclusives (cursed be their names). You put a foot in the door, being just there, getting better from year to year, version to version. Just waiting for the time to be right, when the likes of Sony or Microsoft screw their customers over yet again.
Your patience is running dry? Think of how you felt when you first had to install Steam to play Half Life or something.
I didn't even get past this point back then.
Look where Steam is now and compare SteamOS entrance to that, then you get the bigger picture.

It's a bit of a PR blow but on the positive side, it's far better to have a couple of good console class machines than lots of half-arsed high-end machines giving the manufacturers and Steam-OS a bad rep.
And who can blame those manufacturers? It's not only the graphic-card drivers lacking but OpenGL too just doesn't cut it for a $1000, year 2016 *gaming* PC.
I think it's a smart decision for them to wait how Vulkan will turn out. As for Steam-OS, they just had a bit of bad luck with the timing here, that's often the price of being the avantgarde. So nothing too dramatic happened in my opinion.

Oh, wow! That's like they read my thoughts. I relly hoped they'd port Rocket League, was contemplating about ordering a Steam controller and don't own Portal 2 yet.
Sounds like a decent deal.

Will you guys please stop panicking and think for a moment?
Those stats say nothing about the quality of sales or the tickets, only the numbers.
What if 2/3 of those reports are proper bug reports or even fixes? Because 2/3 of mine were. Are 10 core dumps worse than 1 "My game doesn't start", is that what you're saying?
How is the relation of Linux development cost vs. the revenue?
Let me put it this way. This is the 7th comment, so I'm responsible for 12.5% of text submits on this page but I get only 0% of the donations. Horrible, that doesn't match!

The mouse sensitivity issue is where a gaming mouse with dpi switch actually comes in handy.
Setting my RoG Gladius to 6400dpi and cranking the sensitivity up to full 10/10 lets me shoot like a seasoned marksman whereas before it was rather like spray and pray like a jihadi.

Quoting: morbiusNo, mouse acceleration seems fine, except that mouse is way too sensitive.Well, a console port ported to Linux.

Don't worry about the game forgetting your settings. That only happens after you change the config file.
I don't have any mouse lag but the game has a hell of a annoying mouse-acceleration implemented. It has a similar effect on my gameplay. You can mistake that for lag because of the constant overshooting. Sure that this isn't your problem also or is it really that "react 3 seconds later" as in The Witcher?

Quoting: morbiusAs far as I read, you can increase the PoolSize to 512 no problem or even 1024 if you feel adventurous. I doubt you'll get rid of the initial stutter in new areas though. But I'll try it too and see what happens.Quoting: CaldazarIncreasing PoolSize from 140 to a mere 256 made all the difference in the initial chopper sequence between "unplayable dia show" and "flawless without a single stutter".I can confirm that this indeed works. The game stopped being an unplayable stuttering mess. Now I only get stutters when entering a new area, loading new opponents' models and things like that. I wonder if increasing it to over 256 helps even further. Anyone tried?

I also have a bit of mouse lag input, just like in Witcher 2. It's a bit annoying, but nothing serious. The game also doesn't remember the settings, I have to set the resolution every time.

Quoting: GuestAnyone try the pool memory size increase trick like with Bioshock yet to get rid of stuttering and low-rez textures?Yes, it works perfectly. Thank you guys for pointing it out.
