Ah Microsoft, always an unerring eye for the next big thing and how to be cool.
What do you think: Should I buy a Windows phone because of Minecraft or rather an Oculus Rift, just because?

Train Fever Business Simulation Game Now On Linux

This game in its current state is too simplistic, yes, but its point is to be(come) a solid foundation for mods.
That way it fits nice into Steam and Gabe's "the users are also the creators"-philosophy. The merits of that approach should be self-explanatory to Linux gamers.
It's far from being half-assed like so many games nowadays.
Right now it has just the basic features a transport simulation needs but those are very well implemented.
Especially the gridless way of building, makes games like Simutrans and OpenTTD look really old and obsolete. (Don't get me started about Simutrans' AI anyways)
Graphics and music are also very nice.
So yes, it needs more depth, balance and something to compete against. In its current form it's not really 25€ value but I feel no remorse having paid that amount either. When five guys get so close to AAA quality with what I think is their debut, they deserve that support, despite the current lack of features.
Even if you don't want to buy it yet, I strongly suggest to put it on your wishlist and keep a close eye on what the community will do with this well crafted game.

I had a virus on Windows XP back in 2011. A real baddie, the type where my hosting company informed me that my machine was attacking them.
Luckily my AV had informed me about it a day earlier and I was proud to tell the hoster that I had wiped my hard drive and installed Linux on it. (That's what you're supposed to do with a virus; not delete the thing and think you're good. Wipe the whole system, it's compromised.)
I kept dual-booting to a fresh XP install for gaming.
Log out, dis-connect ethernet, log in to XP, game.
That routine didn't cut it for long and I found myself gaming less and less frequently.
That until Desura, HB, and Steam showed up.
Windows was banned on my computer for good and I can't imagine any scenario where that will change.

Here's the problem GoG will have for some time to come: I already have every game I like in their Linux catalog.
SPAZ was on Linux from the beginning. Whatever wisdom lead GoG to not offer it for Linux from the beginning, now with me, they're in a worse position than a Mee-Too-Company.
As Chris from LAS put it: "Well, yes, meh, welcome to the party!".
I hope they are able to change that image somehow.

Oh that's so important that after the recent half hearted dithering a counter example is set.
Someone takes a financial risk and does the Right Thing, no matter what.
Even the way those guys approach the Linux crowd in the forums could well be part of an HowTo (communicate with the Linux community and make them like you).
First thing, they asked for help.
Small problems like the DLC thing are solved in no time.
This is really promising.

Wow Liam, you seem to have made quite a name for yourself on being a heck of a nuisance to sloppy programmers (or decent programmers forced to do sloppy work; even more common to be fair).
Now, who's doing the good cop?

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Confirmed For Linux & SteamOS

To me it seems we'e entering a phase of seperating the wheat from the chaff.
Game companies will start test-baloons to see with which shortcuts they'll get away.
For us that means that what we accept now, we'll never get rid of for a long time.
For Witcher 3 we have at this point a not too detailed promise, while recent history teaches not not fork over full price or even more for just a promise.
How the Linux version will look like is pure speculation. That's exactly why, from a Linux gamer perspective, it is a super dumb idea to pre-order this game or even buy it untested.
For all I know they might do a proper native version or try to pull some Wine cooperation or whatnot to get this running.

GOL On Advert Blocking, I Don't Hate You, But Please Don't Do It

The problem for me isn't advertising per se but the privacy concerns I have with centralized advertising and tracking.
I haven't blocked you. I have blocked Google, Facebook and Twitter.
I unblocked Piwik for example because I trust them. Again totally unrelated to your site, you just happen to implement it.
As I see it, content providers have two options.
1. Finding sponsors and implement your own Ad-Banners instead of 3rd party scripts.
2. A paywall in cooperation with other sites and content providers.
Supporting every single site I read and every cause I approve of with 25 bucks a year would add up to quite a sum. I have to set priorities and then it's the EFF vs. GoL or something.
Don't get me wrong, I'd hate the position you content providers find yourself in, I get that. But you have to find new models; the existing ones just don't work.
