Assemble Entertainment talk up their indie hits on Steam Deck

Also Orbital Bullet [External Link] works, but that's one even marked as unsupported. ProtonDB [External Link] lists it as platinum though. Works well on Deck.

The Division 2 launched on Steam but no support of Steam Deck or Linux

My way of playing the Division 2 would have been Stadia... it even had crossplay with PC players. I bought it on sale... well, got refunded.
It's available via GeForce Now, but currently only via Ubisoft or Epic, where I don't own the game. And it being borked on Steam, I guess I won't play it at all now.

We have other games to play...

Cool! And interesting what they all track! Devices, operating systems, genres... everything! Well, I have to admit in this case I don't mind. If it would be Microsoft or Google, it would be different

Nice picks, I'm interested mostly in the same games. This show did get me excited for some titles... gosh, I don't want to wait for years for them to finally come out. When will DS2 release and eventually come to PC? 5 years?!

Let's hope Proton will work with most of them ootb, so we don't have to wait even longer when they finally release, and Proton needs to be updated for them.

But when checking the history of the former Playsation exclusives coming to Steam, they even try to get a playable or even verified mark for the Steam Deck, so chances are good.

nvfbc for EGL, please.

Half-Life: Alyx LEVITATION mod adds four hours of new story - out now

Really a shame that Valve hasn't fixed the Mongoose timeout bug. I've played Alyx with Proton, native, the Bioshock Alyx mod Return to Rapture [External Link] with Proton (though it crashed a lot on level transitions), but now I can't get it to run at all. Disabling ipv6 didn't help :-/

Also it was time for me to replace my Index cable again. A damaged cable causes the weirdest issues. Funky pixels flashing randomly in the HMD in all colors, audio cutouts, screen flashes... up to the HMD not being recognized. It's not the HMD that's broken, it's "just" the cable. Now it's all fine again, until this one wears out too.

OBS Studio 29.0 Beta 1 adds AV1 Encode for AMD / Intel

Quoting: XpanderYeah i heard that, but why switch from a working solution to something that breaks plugins :(
From what I've heard, nobody wants to touch that code anymore. So it had to go. With the switch to qt6 many plugins broke... well, the usual update thingy, sometimes old stuff has to be cut off :-/
Too bad if really good functionality is lost then.

Quoting: XpanderXcomposite is pretty similar to perf with nvfbc to be honest, thats not an issue really, but i have to select what window i want to record then every time and if i want to record whole desktop, its sad story. Fullscreen capture (XSHM) is just epicly slow when you launch a game on the desktop. nvfbc was performant in all situations.
Exactly my reasons to use nvfbc still as well. I can just select one of my workspaces to capture, don't have to create sources for each window, etc...

Before I used nfvbc I had one scene where I created a capture window for each game, and used it as a nested scene in my main scene. But still, needed it's own source for each window to capture.

Hmm... how about a tool, that just creates a "window" of a workspace? Is something like that available? If there was a performant way of doing that, it would solve this issue.

OBS Studio 29.0 Beta 1 adds AV1 Encode for AMD / Intel

Quoting: XpanderThey still haven't reversed the commit that broke NvFBC it looks like :(
Still using the v27 because of that. I will have to look for alternatives soon i guess
They switched to EGL, nvfbc (which I'm also still using via OBS 27 as it's awesome, both performance-wise and usability-wise) needs GLX though. And they don't want to maintain GLX anymore.

The OBS Linux maintainers said though, they've put in a lot of effort to make xcomposite capture much better and more performant. They advice to use windowed fullscreen for best results. Haven't tested it yet, but as other plugins are also dropping support for older OBS versions sooner or later, I'll probably upgrade at some point.

Or nVidia implements nvfbc for EGL in their driver... ha, yeah, I know... but we can dream, can't we!

Ubisoft making a return to Steam with Assassin's Creed Valhalla on December 6th

First we disliked Steam as a launcher (as it required an internet connection)
Then we disliked publishers leaving steam in favor of their own launcher.
No we dislike them for coming back and bringing their launcher with it... causing launcher-ception!

It's not too bad, and better having them again back on Steam for better deck compatibility, but it's still a bit annoying.

Funny though, e.g. for Starlink: Battle for Atlas they removed the Uplay-Installer... but it's mandatory for the game, so if you don't have Uplay already installed it neither launches on Windows. On Linux you have to use winetricks/protontricks to install Uplay into the prefix to be able to play it. Otherwise it works flawless, also on Deck, even with videos (which didn't work before due to mpflat).
