OBS Studio 29.0 Beta 1 adds AV1 Encode for AMD / Intel

Quoting: XpanderYeah i heard that, but why switch from a working solution to something that breaks plugins :(
From what I've heard, nobody wants to touch that code anymore. So it had to go. With the switch to qt6 many plugins broke... well, the usual update thingy, sometimes old stuff has to be cut off :-/
Too bad if really good functionality is lost then.

Quoting: XpanderXcomposite is pretty similar to perf with nvfbc to be honest, thats not an issue really, but i have to select what window i want to record then every time and if i want to record whole desktop, its sad story. Fullscreen capture (XSHM) is just epicly slow when you launch a game on the desktop. nvfbc was performant in all situations.
Exactly my reasons to use nvfbc still as well. I can just select one of my workspaces to capture, don't have to create sources for each window, etc...

Before I used nfvbc I had one scene where I created a capture window for each game, and used it as a nested scene in my main scene. But still, needed it's own source for each window to capture.

Hmm... how about a tool, that just creates a "window" of a workspace? Is something like that available? If there was a performant way of doing that, it would solve this issue.

OBS Studio 29.0 Beta 1 adds AV1 Encode for AMD / Intel

Quoting: XpanderThey still haven't reversed the commit that broke NvFBC it looks like :(
Still using the v27 because of that. I will have to look for alternatives soon i guess
They switched to EGL, nvfbc (which I'm also still using via OBS 27 as it's awesome, both performance-wise and usability-wise) needs GLX though. And they don't want to maintain GLX anymore.

The OBS Linux maintainers said though, they've put in a lot of effort to make xcomposite capture much better and more performant. They advice to use windowed fullscreen for best results. Haven't tested it yet, but as other plugins are also dropping support for older OBS versions sooner or later, I'll probably upgrade at some point.

Or nVidia implements nvfbc for EGL in their driver... ha, yeah, I know... but we can dream, can't we!

Ubisoft making a return to Steam with Assassin's Creed Valhalla on December 6th

First we disliked Steam as a launcher (as it required an internet connection)
Then we disliked publishers leaving steam in favor of their own launcher.
No we dislike them for coming back and bringing their launcher with it... causing launcher-ception!

It's not too bad, and better having them again back on Steam for better deck compatibility, but it's still a bit annoying.

Funny though, e.g. for Starlink: Battle for Atlas they removed the Uplay-Installer... but it's mandatory for the game, so if you don't have Uplay already installed it neither launches on Windows. On Linux you have to use winetricks/protontricks to install Uplay into the prefix to be able to play it. Otherwise it works flawless, also on Deck, even with videos (which didn't work before due to mpflat).

Unreal Engine 5.1 rolled out with plenty of Linux improvements

Now we "just" need the slow transition of devs actually doing native Linux build with it :woot:

Looks like there is now at least either some demand, or Epic finally sees some benefit in giving the productive usage of Unreal Engine on Linux a bit more love.

Thanks Valve, Steam Deck, etc.... again!

Spider-Man: Miles Morales gets Steam Deck Verified ahead of release

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI'm sure this Miles Morales is a good character and all, but for me, Spiderman is Peter Parker. I've known Peter Parker for nearly 50 years, and I just don't feel right about Spiderman being anyone else.
It's like if someone said "OK, we're doing another LoTR movie, but this time the ringbearer is going to be Merry's cousin Doderic Brandybuck. We think it's time to move on from Bagginses."
I know what you mean.
But have you watched the Spider-Man New Universe movie? And Spider-Man No Way Home?
Both give good explanations, and help with understanding.

Dang, haven't even played the previous Spider-Man Remastered
And again so cool to get former Playstation exclusive titles directly Deck verified and thus also (mostly) Linux/Proton compatible.

FSR 2.1 is a game-changer for Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam Deck

Quoting: scaineI never finished Cyberpunk 2077, despite nearly 50 hours played. There's so much in there, content-wise, I kept forgetting to progress the "real" story. Great game, lots of fun.
Keep it that way, I'm sad I finished it... didn't do all NCPD events, but all gigs and sidequests, before finishing the main story. And... I miss it. The atmosphere, the characters, the details... man, the details in this game are amazing. Environmental storytelling all over the place: a stray car on the high way bridge, a note, somebody having problems with their corporation, a corpse in the river below... so. good.

Steam Deck hits over 6,000 games marked Verified or Playable

What are your current favourite games on Steam Deck?
For me it's currently Scorn [External Link] and Fall Guys [External Link].

Scorn is something I cannot stop thinking about. I dive into the world again and again, spotting more and more details every time I come back, making more connections and more conclusions. Even though I finished it almost two weeks ago, with every new theory I read about the "game" becomes better and better. Game in quotes, as it's more of an experience, an art work... with some gameplay mechanics. And I really enjoy how well it runs on the Deck.

Fall Guys is something I love to jump in again and again. Currently with the cute little Alien skin :) Also kinda perfect on Deck. Too bad there is no official support for EAC, and I expect it to stop working sooner or later. I have the impression many people play it on Deck though, either through Steam or EGS via Heroic, so if it stops working, hopefully the crowd will be loud enough to finally get official support.
