Oof, what a bummer. They really make it hard for us to enjoy gaming on Linux.
I remember the boiling steam interview, where Timothee Besset pointed out, that they showed them how to maintain the Linux port and that Psyonix was very interested in the quality of the port. So I guess it's not them who made the decision, but somebody above them... to maximize the profit.
Oh man... this was one was a bright light on the Linux gaming horizon...

Up for a retro adventure? The Space Quest II remake is now available on Linux

Oh! I loved playing the Space Quest series back in the days... those are my first steps with adventures. Damn, I knew all the commands to play through the game by heart, even though I didn't really understand them all.
Cool! Very cool!
edit1:
For those on Ubuntu 18.04 getting this error:
You can download the libpng12 deb from here: 64 bit [External Link] or 32 bit [External Link]. After installation of that package (libpng12-0_1.2.54-1ubuntu1.1_amd64 in my case), the game starts.
There is a ppa for newer Ubuntu versions, see linuxuprising.com [External Link].
edit2:
For windowed mode (the setting in the acsetup.cfg seems to be ignored) start the game with "./SQ2VGA_V2 -windowed".

Wasn't it Razer who wanted to create the best Linux gaming laptop some time ago, but went completely silent on that?
Oh yeah, it was reported here on GoL...

SteamVR 1.9 is out, Linux VR users may want to opt into a Beta

I am opted into the Beta, but haven't switched to the linux_temp branch so far. For me it doesn't crash. The SteamVR releases (I'm mostly on beta, except when I experience a show stopping bug) are improving more and more over time.
They are committed to improving stability and performance. E.g I had the bug, where my Knuckles controllers (the Valve Index controllers) where vibrating all the time. They even released special SteamVR beta, so they could get more debug data about this rare issue. And it turned out, that a disabled steam vr webhelper caused this (at least for me). It only happened to the Knuckles though, not with the Vive wands.
I'm enjoying Beat Saber a lot on my rig (i7 6700, gtx 1070), but also other VR games work pretty well (e.g. Boneworks). Nevertheless, VR games get more demanding on hardware, so I'm thinking about an upgrade soon.
PS: for the issues, Index cams are working for me, after setting the default frequency to 48kHz in the pulseaudio config (source [External Link], I have no isses with the mic anymore, I didn't have any audio issues so far (and I would realize with Beat Saber).

Insurgency: Sandstorm no longer getting Linux/Mac support or a campaign mode

EAC Support for Proton is so badly needed. Or vice versa... EAC support for Linux (and easy for devs to implement) needed. Sandstorm worked already great in Proton, until EAC was introduced.
Then it just doesn't matter, as we could just hit install and play in the Steam client for Linux.
Though I'm also disappointed as they promised it for so long, and I patiently waited. I'm still playing and enjoying Insurgency (non-sandstorm version) on Linux.

After the upgrade to 440.44 I experienced a slightly but noticeable delay in VR. Which makes it very uncomfortable to play.
I downgraded to 440.36 again, and the issue is gone. Seems like this "fix" is causing issues (at least for me):
To get the old driver back on Ubuntu, I downloaded them from here [External Link]:
Put these links into a text file, download them at once via wget -i, and install them all via dpkg -i.
Kudos to kisak who helped me with the downgrade procedure.

Fixed a bug that caused applications running directly on a display (such as VR HMDs) to tear when a G-SYNC or G-SYNC Compatible monitor is plugged in the system.I am playing (and streaming) VR from my gaming notebook, which does have the internal display attached via G-Sync.
