How To: An update on fixing screen-tearing on Linux with an NVIDIA GPU
11 Jan 2017 at 4:05 pm UTC

For reverting the resolution, after a game didn't set it back, I used so far:
xrandr --output DP0 --mode 1920x1080
Have to check if this affects tearing, if the corresponding settings are saved in the xorg.conf file.

It has also a demo available, which is another bonus most games don't offer these days.
I've recently seen a german interview with one of the devs, and this game definitively has my attention. Going to pick it up sooner or later.
Very nice of Mimimi Productions to have a Linux version up on day 1. Daedalic is quite Linux friendly anyway. They've done everything "right" ;)
Would be interesting to hear about their Linux sales.

+1.2% for Linux ;)

Wow, is Linux really gaining market share? Except for gamers (according to the steam hardware survey) as it seems :->

They just need to keep spending the resources to keep their in-house Linux expertise in a healthy state.
This little word "just" has such a big meaning...
I'm afraid, now that Microsoft has picked up DirectX again, improved Windows 10 as a gaming platform (with new features probably coming with the next big update), Linux is losing in the long run.
We are mostly late with releases, latest big thing were the Steam Dev Days showing VR on Linux. And everything else was shown on Linux/SteamOS Machines too, that was quite cool and impressive. But Valve isn't showing anything new or upcoming to us. So I'm wondering what do they have in their pipeline, if anything at all... and when.
2016 was a great year for Linux gaming in general, with a lot of big releases. Some of them finally released after being announced a long time ago. But what's coming next? I'm missing big announcements to get hyped for and to look forward to.
There are some kickstarter projects like System Shock or Everspace, but that can't be all. My concern is, publishers and devs might turn their back on us and go for Windows and maybe Mac only again. Even the Feral Radar is pretty empty (except for two upcoming mac only titles) at the moment.

Atm I'm using wine again for a lot of games, like No Man's Sky or Doom. Luckily OpenGL and Vulkan make this possible. But I want more native ports! I'm really afraid of 2017 after 2016 had such a great pace.

What game are you truly thankful to have on Linux & SteamOS?

The game I'm really thankful to have on Linux is: Alien: Isolation.
Since I was able to test the first version on gamescom 2014, or even since it was announced, I've been looking forward to a release. And it was so cool that Feral ported it to my favorite OS!

But of course there are other games I'm also thankful to have on Linux ;)

Stefan Achatz, the developer who helps get Roccat devices properly working on Linux to end his work

Indeed sad news. As always when someone steps back from work on stuff related to our beloved operating system. But when the userbase is big enough, chances are good someone else might pick up the code and continue on implementing support for new devices.

I have to admit, I've never used Roccat devices before, as I'm happy with my Apple keyboard and my Logitech MX 518 mouse. I love the quality and ergonomics of the Apple keyboard, and I was surpised how good it is supported on Linux. I could imagine that there are more people on Linux using Roccat keyboards than Apple keyboards. Ok, the Roccat keyboard has more features to support and I hope the best for future support. Too bad Roccat doesn't offer Linux support by themselves.

Did they already adress the issues with Saints Row - The Third?
iirc there are still some multiplayer issues on Linux?

Kingdom Come: Deliverance may not come to Linux at all, more bad news

Awww man. Another (almost) canceled port.
I don't get it. Why do they think they can make a Linux version in the first place?
Most of Kickstarter projects (except the System Shock remake, Greedy Guns and some other exceptions) don't have a Linux demo to show they have already looked into this topic yet promising a Linux version. And in the end they realize it is to much effort to do the port so it's first delayed, and then canceled.
If a Linux port is announced in the Kickstarter campaign, do they get so much more money that it is worth the risk of never delivering a Linux port and setting up the backers believing in a Linux port?

I didn't back Kingdom Come: Deliverance, but it is a bad sign in general. Of course this doesn't apply to all Kickstarter campaigns, but already too many. And I'm worried about games to come that look promising and interesting, we are spending our money on them because we believe in their promises and in the end are getting disappointed.

I hope for the best for Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Please do the port.
