FYI: As far as I know, bintsmok is from Philippines. Maybe he/she can tell us or agree/disagree about smartphone craziness in from his/her country.
(I don't know how to mention him/her in GoL)
Back to topics.
Why I'm harping, whining and sometimes annoying about Linux mobile devices/smartphones?
Why Apple wanted to locking down iOS?
Why Android nowadays all non-removable batteries?
Because smartphone is where the money right now.
I can say we already won battle on server platform, struggling but still survive battle on desktop/laptop/x86 platform. Now is time for us to focusing on mobile devices/smartphones.
Lastly, PLEASE ANDROID ≠ LINUX. It's a cocktail.

There's still a lot of ways Linux gaming needs to improve of course. It seems pulling in users from Asia would probably help quite a lot, but for that we need the heavy-hitting titles they seem to love like PUBG.That's impossible to do with todays smartphone craziness in Asia. Significant majority of us are now rarely gaming on PC anymore. Everything smartphone.

Happy Birthday Gaming on Linux.. (and Liam :D)
Can't believe how Linux (and Linux gaming) are thrived today (and will continue to thriving) with lots of anti-open source hostile crowd in tech world.
Linux gaming always having lots "ups and downs" but if we stick together (even do many of us have many views), be vocal and continued voting with our money. Linux gaming community will be great in the future.
FOR LINUX GAMING!!.. ***Raise my glass***

About repackaged (Windows) games and Wine. I'd rather return back sailing on 'torrent seas' because pirated Windows games are always much more stable than original one.

Quoting: LeopardYou are very right , why are you keep saying sorry though? It's Asian culture way to say "That's is my opinion but I'm respecting yours" (old habit die hard). I think other culture also have a same way to expressing their opinion.
Quoting: LeopardUntil they support Linux properly , no bucks from me.Agree. No tux no bucks. No negotiate.
Also a clarification to running repacked games:
If i had to buy every Windows only title to run them with Wine , i would dual boot or single boot to Windows instead. I don't like to pay and suffer.

As expected. I'm always doubting any games shown on Microsoft E3 will launched on Linux. Including beloved CP2077 (sorry guys). If the games 'shown on Microsoft E3' launched on Linux, great but i'm expecting the game will become broken like Ark. If the games doesn't become 'Ark', then I will buy it. That's the lesson I learned after become Linux gamer.
Sorry guys, but my perception sometimes hard to change. And for many reasons.

The Atari VCS team aren't doing themselves any favours by accusing The Register of being professional trolls

I have many doubts on Atari in first place. No need to say much after this.
Also, we as Linux gamers should be more careful after this. We are still a small community and with scammers are giving Linux gaming and FOSS in general a bad reputation, it is time for us to act against it. If not....... :| :(
Great investigation StopDrop&Retro!
EDIT: I'm accidently pressing "Post Comment" too early..

Quoting: elmapulheyJust watch it few moments ago. My nightmare will become reality. Well, at least in that video, StopDrop&Retro is neutral towards Linux. No bashing or badmouthing. Just pure facts, examples of scams and scammers in general and "wake-up call" to backers. And I'm thankful for that.Quoting: liamdaweyou must see this video:

atariVCS isnt the first crowdfunding from Atari, and they didnt delivered the others!
or delivered without the games and atari brand...

I had feel uneasy from beginning about Atari VCS. Especially majority of IndieGoGo crowdfunding are not having great success and reputation (except a few project such as GPD Win). My nightmare might become a reality. And this news makes me more unconvincing even more.
Just wait for youtuber's StopDrop&Retro investigation if VCS failed. I hope I am wrong again and VCS become a success. If this failed, it certainly adding more fuel to anti-Linux community (especially some gaming community) to disregarded Linux even more.
Not a good news for Linux and Linux gaming especially.

How to be a great advocate for a niche gaming platform

Great article! Especially on "You can have tangible value" part.
And for such niche gaming community, Linux gamers are the most diverse gaming community I ever seen. Multiple backgrounds and from multiple countries with mutiple views are join together to make Linux gaming better.
For example here in GOL, there are 7,579 registered users equivalent to small town in many countries. But people here has lots opinion which cause lots of disagreement in article's comments section. So, that's shows how we love Linux gaming as whole.

Quoting: TurtleSharkI have found a lot of the arguments against Linux to be oddly familiar. Then it hit me... They are a lot of the same arguments I heard 2004-2014 about PC gaming vs console gaming.Decades later..... Microsoft combined Xbox and Windows 10 become singular platform known as Xbox Play Anywhere. So much for console exclusivity and optimization.
"People don't want to learn how to build a PC! They just want to plug it in and have it work!"
"I don't want to deal with error messages and figuring things out. Just want to play games."
"But there's no games on PC! All my favorite exclusives (Uncharted, Halo, etc.) are on Xbox360/PS3"
"But X game didn't work well on PC, works great on my console" (Game came out for the console and got ported to PC)
"PC's great for OLD games. All the new exclusives are for the consoles."
AND my favorite
"Desktop PC's are dead"
Now that niche "dying" PC gaming market isn't so niche...

Instead of asking:
Feral, Why you not distribute your games on GOG?We should asking:
Feral, How to help you to distribute your games on GOG?My opinion people, feel free to disagree.

Game store itch is having a big summer sale

I know GOG doing great job especially on DRM-Free policy but I'm love with itch.io 'Name-Your-Own-Price' model for buying games. For me, that's the best way to support indie devs.
For mainstream games, I buying on Steam. Let's be honest, Steam price in Malaysia among cheapest in the world. Just look at price for Rocket League on SteamDB [External Link].
EDIT: Forgot to mention SteamDB link is Rocket League game database.

Quoting: Alm888Have you looked at GOG? It also has the games you mentioned, like The Signal From Tölva [External Link], Tacoma [External Link], Slipstream 5000 [External Link] and others, all DRM-free and with regional pricing (at least in my country).Yes, but all GOG games here are sell at full price without regional pricing.

Quoting: GuestWow what you have there is quite nice. Here people earn approximately a third of that what people earn in western Europe, yet we have to swallow all the 60 eur releases just the same, from all stores. Or USD, or whatever the store uses. While game is cheap here, everything else especially houses are so damn expensive relatively to average salary. Average salary here is RM2,463 in 2017 according to research (I'm totally disagree with that). Spend 1/2 of your salary for paying house mortgage is normal here. Hell, some people I know had to combine salary with their spouse just to buy a flat/small apartment house.
