AMD announce 'GPUOpen', open source tools like Nvidia's GameWorks

An open-source driver is the best chance we've got at NVIDIA engineers pitching in to help make AMD a viable option on Linux.

I will not feel bad for ANYONE who ignores all the obvious warning signs and plunks down their cash on this, only to be ripped off. This is going to take the Divinity: Original Sin fiasco to a whole new level. Mark my words.

Lucius II, wreak havoc as the bad guy on SteamOS & Linux

So many games on Linux have bad or incomplete or totally missing gamepad support. Best just remap it all to keyboard+mouse inputs for those cases. In this regard, the Steam Controller is a godsend. There are, however, a small number of games that simply do not work with the Steam Controller whatsoever. One example is The Banner Saga, unless it's been fixed...

Also, that trailer (and all like it!) sucks. It tells me virtually nothing about the gameplay.

First impression is they are attempting to imitate the original Diablo in a lot of ways. And this is a good thing. Wishlisted.

Quoting: Crazy Penguin
Quoting: PlintslchoI pick the game up when it becomes available in other stores such as GOG.com as well.
Let me quote from the developers blog: http://www.managames.com/DungeonGuardians/2015/11/29/52nd-weekly-update-modding-sdk/ [External Link]

"Except that, I got the answer from GOG : they said it looked like a good & interesting game, but were afraid it was too much of a niche game for their store."
Wow. That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. I am glad that I don't bother investing in GOG.

Quoting: sigzCombats are still a bit confusing, not easy to monitor skills cooldown while keeping an eye on enemies casts... That's pretty difficult.
You can pause the game and you can queue up 3 skills per party member. You also have an option in the settings to enable digital cooldowns, which will show you a timer counting down for the cooldown. I personally prefer the default animation, but it is hard to see. I have requested a tweak to those animations, so hopefully the dev will take kindly to the suggestion, as he has in the past.

Yeah, I love this game! The dev is very responsive, and keeps patching fixes and features. Several of my own requests were even added, such as the ability to increase the font and to leave the GUI up when picking up items (to allow quick equipping). He also fixed a bug I had and is currently investigating another (edit: just got word he found the problem and the fix will be in the next update!). I bought the game at full price, and don't regret it one cent!

I also put together a Steam Controller config for the game, which I think works extremely well. It's shared to the community, and I put the full details here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/409450/discussions/0/496881136910319016/ [External Link]

Garry Newman, developer of Rust & Garry's Mod on supporting Linux, possibly not for future games

Quoting: Storminator16I'm going to walk into my favourite pizza establishment right now and demand I pay full price for an medium sized pie. If he gives me only a slice, I should just be fine with that, too. Am I doing it right? I mean, he needs to make sure his kids have shoes on his feet and he can pay for his mistress and all.
Your analogy sucks. It's more like, you walk into your favorite pizza establishment and demand a gluten-free vegan pizza. They are one of the few who decide to oblige and it takes them longer to put your special pizza together, since a gluten-free vegan option has never been part of their menu before. So you berate them, and still they work hard on your pizza. Finally, they bring it to you, and you're still not happy because they used chunks of tofu instead of seitan. You throw the pizza on the floor and walk out without paying, all the while screaming, "this pizza establishment is oppressing me and the other gluten-intolerant vegans!"

A developer on Tesla Effect details why the Linux port never arrived

Quoting: TakBink is widely used because it's a more-or-less drop-in solution for "cross-platform" video. It's a shame that they don't support Linux any more, because they certainly used to - the between-chapter cutscenes in Neverwinter Nights used Bink.
Umm, what? Neverwinter Nights for Linux didn't support video cinematics. They literally just gave us transcripts of the cinematics to read between chapters...

That makes Bink video a problem for Linux gaming for close to 15 years! Why on Earth would ANY dev who wants to support Linux use it? (BioWare claimed NWN was designed to be cross-platform from the start... yet they used InstallShield and Miles and Bink.... Then we waited for like 9 months while they tried to figure out how to make the game work cross-platform...)

Yes! Great game. And the developer is awesome - constantly adding features requested by the userbase, including several of my own requests. I also made a Steam Controller config and shared it publicly, and it feels really good!
