SteamOS/Linux Version Of Gauntlet Cancelled

Quoting: KurremkarmerrukI think it's interesting that linux users say "don't preorder!" when really, preorder numbers may have had an impact on their decision to continue with the development.

Oh well, I played it on Windows it was actually pretty awesome (I love local coop) but I do hope that eventually (maybe if SteamOS hits it off) they'll decide to come back to a linux version. They had to have started at least some work on it...
Do you know what happens when you, being a Linux user, buy a game and then go on to play it on Windows? Maybe THAT had an impact on their decision to not continue with the Linux port. And hint: it's not limited to just Gauntlet.

Maybe if people stopped dual-booting and buying Windows games all the damn time, our percentage of market share on the Steam survey results wouldn't be sitting at less than half of what it used to be, and devs wouldn't be pointing at it as a reason to ignore us.

This is a great example of why you don't buy games until they're actually playable on Linux.

This is one I was planning to buy, reviews be damned. Oh well.

Caves of Qud Science Fantasy Roguelike Now In Early Access For Linux, Some Thoughts
20 Jul 2015 at 3:28 pm UTC

The ASCII version of CoQ is available for free... for Windows. Maybe if someone asked them nicely, they'd post a Linux version, too. I'm pretty sure they are well aware of just how niche a true roguelike is. If you feel the need to comment against the "graphics" then it's clearly not a game for you.

I've played it some, but I much prefer Sproggiwood. I'd highly recommend that to anyone interested in a more friendly roguelike, with actual graphics.

This is a very cool game, and I'm so glad they fixed the controller support. It works great with my ASUS Nexus Gamepad (with xboxdrv).

Slime Rancher Is Probably The Most Adorable Game I've Seen For A While

I get some strong Elebits vibes from this... That was an early Wii title which I haven't played since shortly after it released, so I can't quite recall how it played or anything like that, just this was the first thing that popped in my head.

Having FPS Problems In ARK: Survival Evolved? Try This Simple Fix

^ Motion blur is the first thing I turn off, in any game. It's annoying as hell.

I had noticed that the initial ARK beta ran better than the patched version the next day, and I tried lowering everything to Low, even. So I'll try the Epic setting and hope it's at least playable some. Still waiting on the advertised Full Gamepad Support before I really dig into it, though.

Anno Online From Ubisoft & Blue Byte Comes To Steam For Linux, Thoughts Included
6 Jul 2015 at 6:30 pm UTC

Quoting: GuestWell if Ubisoft base their calculations for potential Linux sales on the sales of this game, we’re not going to see Far Cry 4 any time soon :)
This is a free-to-play game.

Or in this case, a free-to-not-play game, I suppose.

This makes it much harder to compare sales. They could, however, get an idea of the player numbers, I guess. But in any case, it's still apples and oranges, considering they're not even remotely similar games or executions.

7 Days to Die Completely Broken For Mac & Linux

This might seem cruel, twisted, disrespectful to the Linux users.
I think Garry STILL doesn't understand what we felt was disrespectful.

It'd be in all of our best interests to convince Valve to bundle dev tools into SteamOS's desktop mode, or at least make them extremely easy to install for anyone of any experience level, and turn SteamOS into a one-stop-shop for gamers and game devs alike. This is a huge opportunity with the likes of Valve, Alienware, GameStop (eww) behind it...
