Didn't last long: Back 4 Blood no longer working on Linux with Proton
15 Aug 2021 at 1:10 pm UTC Likes: 2

First day, when some stupid guyes Reddited that news only I was a person who said that was EARLY ACCESS of game, but noone listened me, this dumbasses just down voted me and thay was so happy their illiterate dumb brain made holy boolshit information: "This is first step of EAC supppot for Proton".
If game developer not says that thay will support Proton, where the hell you are prooving others that this happens?
Believe it or not, noone cares Linux. If they want that, THEY WILL SAY IT!
Linux has very tiny marketshare and dual booters are shitting there.

Looks like the fresh Back 4 Blood Beta is working on Linux with Proton GE

EAC loading screen appears also on HALO, but it does nothing. I mean first launch option, not second one with disabled anti-cheat.
This is early access of game, so it's normal that thare is anti-cheat that really doesn't do its job before full release of game.
Offtopic but new Battlefield 2042 will be with EAC secured.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPThat's all correct, and it might be possible explanations of why a platform is dropped - security concerns.
But still nothing of that has anything to do with the quality of the game. I'm really not getting the connection here.
Security is just word, it's mask to hide some malware behinde it. EAC, Battleye, Vanguard and PUBG's multiple anti-cheats all are rootkits and Tencent uses standard phrase: "We're not not collecting your personal information, we're using anti-cheats against cheaters".
Give us one bloody reason to trust them?
Who trusts them they don't know about rootkits and security, they know just play games and play them again, nothing more, maybe they not know multiplication table also (from 1x1 to 10x10).
Rootkits are malwares, it doesn't matter for what they are created, all rootkits makes systems vulnerable for another attack vectors.
So, Tencent removes Linux versions, they know that there are many Linux users who don't care about gaming, but can proove that their rootkits are really rootkits, malwares.
have you thinked how many security analystics are interested Tencent's owned rootkits? This analystics also boughted buy Tencent, because they "not exist" any more.
Cheers.

Quoting: slaapliedjeSure, maybe the gameplay didn't change, but what if they dropped Linux support because they couldn't figure out how to install a rootkit, but they did on the Windows version?
An online game needs good anti-cheat software, that's an unfortunate truth.
If rootkits are truly necessary or not is certainly up for debate (I'd say no), but it doesn't really matter for this point.
If an online game does not have good anti-cheat, then the quality of the game would definitely suffer.

I just don't see what the connection between dropping a platform and a game's quality has to do with this?
Two possilbe reasons:
1) Their rootkits doesn't work same way in Linux as on Windows, so it can't do anything against Linux cheaters.
2) Their rootkits can't be hidden from advanced Linux researchers and of caurse they not want that.

Any way, rootkits aren't wellcomed from serious Linux users. If someone is just gamer and not more, they must ditch Linux and install Windows.

Update your NVIDIA drivers due to multiple security issues found

Quoting: XpanderOhh thats weird... i played through all of the game with 450.xx drivers..different ones. havent tried on 460 though
Yes, 450 works well for Detroit. 460 crashes when starting chapter 29 "Last Chance, Connor". I played that game whole two days and every attemp to play chapter 29 it was crashing. A little search I found that same problem have Windows users and fix was just downgrade Nvidia's driver. Tried downgrade driver on Arch Linux, but there was multiple dependencies and it failed, so temporery I installed Ubuntu with Nvidia-450 and finished game with mostly good ending. Yeah, today going back again to Arch.

Latest Nvidia driver also has bug for Detroit: Become Human, you can't play after chapter 28, it crashes, need to downgrade 440. After som search in web, it's clear that same happens on Windows too. So, newer drivers have not only security problems.

However, by buying a game that doesn't support Linux, you are sending the message to the dev that they don't need to support Linux to get your money. Why should that dev support Linux if you're going to give them money either way?
Thanks. You said what I wanted to say.
Looks like game developers are thinking "Why we support Linux, when Linux users have WINE/PROTON and they already are buying games from us. Yes, they have some pains to play our games but they don't care it so why we care them, why we support them?!"
Buying unsupported game sends game developers signal that you anyway paying of them. So they don't have reason to support Linux. No one makes games for supporting gamers, it's business.
Game sold over 1 million copies at Steam alone , do you really think they will care about a Linux port?

You can't get a Linux port deal from huge games like this if you are not Google and throw money to them for porting the game for your platform.
You are misunderstanding what I'm talking about.
I never said that annoying phrase "Please port your game on Linux", it's shame to say that phrase.

You (maybe) and many others are paying game developing companies doing nothing for Linux. You justify it by saying that rises Linux gaming marketshare. Yes, technically you are right, but look at the other side of the coin, your action causes a backlash, other game developers have noticed this and it also makes sense for them not to create games for Linux.

Other developers see that Linux users are already buying their games even though the games do not have a Linux version. They see that Linux users are paying money for the WINE version. So much less games will be released in the future with the official support of Linux. Why should a game developer create a Linux version when Linux users are happy with the Windows version with WINE?!

Do you remember when Feral Interactive last time ported the game to Linux? For some reason the Feral's radar shows nothing. A large portion of Linux users bought the game before Feral ported it to Linux. Here, to many user wrote contentedly about how well these games ran with the WINE and waited to see when Feral would portray it so that they could then enjoy the Linux version.

I have a question for the public here, does Feral Interactive have any reason to port something to Linux in the future? I guess not, because a large part of you will buy such a game before porting, your paid money will go to the creator of the Windows version of the game, while Feral will be left with a three-finger combination. Consequently there is no reason for Feral to port anything to Linux in future.

No company has any interest in releasing the game with the Linux version as the WINE has done them a disservice. None of developer is foolish enough to incur additional costs in what they will earn income without spending, with the help of WINE.

It is nonsense to talk about the Linux marketer when most of the games bought by Linux users do not have Linux support. Why do Linux users need to pay for the product and receive 30-40% of the product fee?! As the Linux marketer grows, so do the Linux versions of games goes down. Why do you complicate the situation?! Install Windows and play there, get full fun. Your action, paying for wine versions, more and more reduces the likelihood of creating Linux versions and why bother taking in only a small portion of the pleasure to play them with WINE?!

Who cares if you play in Linux?! Nobody, nobody cares that!
