Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty new trailer live, plus big free update coming
24 August 2023 at 7:15 pm UTC

It has been nearly 2 years since I played CP2077 and while this seems interesting, it has been too long for this to come out. I might pick up the DLC if it is on sale, but I don't really have any interest in the game. I think CDPR really missed the mark on this game. They should have left it as is and focused on the next game in the series.

Forspoken needs desktop Linux to spoof being a Steam Deck to work

Quoting: tohurSteamDeck=1 only applies if you are using a Nvidia GPU I think as my game launches just fine without it. also highly suggest using gamemode with gamemoderun %command% . I got this thing included with the GPU I bought over the summer so if you do not own the game yet I would wait TBH for a sale or after some updates because the game is poorly optimized on PC as it runs like crap on both Linux and Windows for me
I have a rx6600xt and yesterday I tried the demo. It doesn't launch.
I'm sure with this parameter it uses dx11 or a version with less features with dx12 (wine can emulate/adapt many dx12 features but not all).
It's not worth it 80€ for a game. For me I think 60€ it's the maximum for a AAA game.
We are on a recession plus inflation and they are increasing the price.
For me it's a pass even if it were a native game.
Hope they fix it for the next update. It's not complicated to make a function if(linux) then, else other.

Funny considering I own a 6600 XT and do not need the SteamDeck=1 idk weird

I am assuming that it is related to having a Nvidia graphics card. I have a complete AMD system (R9 & 6700XT) and didn't need that command to get the game to launch. I have run in to all the other issues in the demo though.

If you need a AMD GPU, I have a RX470 & RX590 currently collecting dust since I got a 6700XT.

Not sure if I will get one of these, since my main Linux PC will do everything this can (and probably better). I would probably pick one up for the HTPC aspect of it. Something that looks nice compared to other HTPC's

Been playing a lot of Mass Effect Andromeda lately. There are a lot of games on my wish list now. Didn't want to buy a console or switch to windows for these games, so I am really happy that EA games & Origin are now working through Proton.

I have been thinking about getting a VR set. Which VR are you using and what are you thoughts?
Sorry, almost missed this one. I bought the Valve Index because this is the only VR headset in the market officially supporting Linux (besides being one of the best) but it is a pain in the ass to buy it and you have to wait weeks, maybe months for it to arrive. But it is worth it. I am having a blast, VR on Linux is in a better state than I thought, so far 80-90% of the VR games I research work on Linux.
That is great to hear. I am willing to wait for a quality product. Now I just have to budget for it.

Quoting: PatolaVR galore!
Bought Fallout IV VR (already had bought Skyrim VR a few days earlier), Doom VFR, Alice VR (which has a native port to Linux with no VR), Everspace (for the VR also only present on the windows build), The Wizards (VR RPG), Apex Construct, Final Assault (VR RTS), Battlewake, Shadow Legend VR, Bugdet Cuts 2:Mission Insolvency and finally Tabletop Simulator, had to use via proton because the Linux version does not have VR.
Also bought X: Rebirth VR but it did not work, I created the first protondb report for it and refunded, also opened a bug report at the proton bugtracker.

I have been thinking about getting a VR set. Which VR are you using and what are you thoughts?

Valve drops support for SteamVR on macOS to focus on Linux & Windows

Quoting: PraxachThe wife got an Oculus Quest last week and now she wants to see what we can do with a PC powered VR system. I didn't want to buy one only to find out that it wasn't going to be supported in the future.
I thought Oculus doesn't support Linux. Does it?

No that does not support anything. it is a complete standalone system. (https://www.oculus.com/quest/)

It is really nice since it is portable and you don't need the stands in a room to use VR. Games are short and expensive, but I think that is the same for any VR system right now. You can side load apps on the system so you can bypass the Oculus (facebook) store to purchase apps for the device.

I really hope valve takes a look at the Quest and comes up with a way to do a similar setup so you don't need to have the sensors in the room.

Valve drops support for SteamVR on macOS to focus on Linux & Windows

I am indifferent about the lack of MacOS support. Sucks that they are dropping it, but at the same time it is probably due to Apple's walled garden approach to everything.

Personally I am glad they are moving forward with more Linux support for VR. The wife got an Oculus Quest last week and now she wants to see what we can do with a PC powered VR system. I didn't want to buy one only to find out that it wasn't going to be supported in the future. Now I just have to wait for them to come back in stock.

I am old enough to remember MS policy of Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish. I am glad they are working with Linux more, but I still don't trust MS. Their policies are a huge reason of why I have embraced open source software as much as I have.
