Edit: Edit to say that Pillars of Eternity (I and II) are awesome if you're looking for a more recent vintage in the isometric crpg variety.
Don't forget Tyranny [External Link] :) An absolute gem, that seems to have flown completely under the radar of most. It's also from Obsidian, and I absolutely loved it. It has more of an "ancient Greece" feel than the usual "medieval europe", which really tickles my fancy.

US Supreme Court sides with Google against Oracle about copying APIs being 'fair use'

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI'm very pleased with this outcome. As to why we got it, there is a cynical side of me saying "Ah! The Supremes concluded Google's pockets were deeper than Oracle's!"
We're just lucky the bigger plutocratic guns were on our side on this particular occasion.
My exact reaction to this.
What we can all take from this ruling, is that Google wields more influence, and have better lobbyists, than Oracle does.

As with the time that Google (et al.) was "pro" Net Neutrality, we can praise ourselves lucky that their interests happened to align with those of the general public (insofar as the 'general' public cares about Java and Net Neutrality).

Companies ain't our friends, and they don't give two sh1ts about what benefits *us*.

Valheim hits 6 million sales, gets a small teaser for a big update

Quoting: GoboStatistically they have sold more than one copy for every current citizen of Denmark, one of the regions where vikings originated from. Or more than the whole population of Scandinavia 200 years ago. With one game. By five people.
~1,03 copies for every danske.
~1,11 copies for every nordmann.

(Based on population numbers from wikipedia)

Which means means that if they ever publish which contries bought the game, we'll see that half was sold in Denmark, and the other half sold in Norway. Stands to reason.

Quoting: sarmadToo bad Steam Controllers are only 2%.
Too bad Valve never really wanted to sell them to anyone. Just like the Steam Link. If they'd actually been easily available for purchase then they would have sold a ton. In Norway, you couldn't really get one outside of Ebay.

Quoting: lectrodeIMHO, if I'm not using a controller, it's not as relaxing - which is one of the main reasons I game to begin with. Unwind before hitting the hay. All the naysayers can pry my controller from my cold dead hands :p
Can't kick back on the couch with KB&M. Some games are better suited for KBM, like those of a classic/isometric RPG format, and some just "feels" better with KBM, but most "mainstream" games are more often than not made with a gamepad in mind (and thus have had their UI mangled to accomodate this).

This fall when I started playing Dragon Age Inquisition (works very well in Wine), I moved my desktop PC out into the living room, hooked it up to the 75" and surround, and have been playing it from the sofa with a DS4. GHaving gamedpads being as simple as Plug and Play is a must.

Will Stadia need to launch Uplay in order to play the games, like on Steam?

A high end laptop with non upgradeable memory, if I was in the market for a laptop this certainly wouldn't be it.
Are there any "high end" laptops that aren't non-upgradeable? It seems to me that being non-upgradeable is an "important" part of high end laptops nowadays; if a laptop is "high end", you can be quite certain that it won't be upgradeable. We all know that it isn't just because some components may work better in a thin chassis if they can be soldered ;)

And "high end" here is of course the "premium" or "luxury" laptops like Macbooks, XPS, and whatever passes for premium from Lenovo (X1? Carbon? I'm not that familliar with Levono, but the "normal" Thinkpad (I had one; sold it) is premium only in what they charge you for it, imo)

Open source multi-vendor RGB lighting control app 'OpenRGB' sees a new release

Quoting: HoriNext year I'm gonna build a new PC since the current one will be a bottleneck for the new generation of GPUs. And I can only hope that the components of that PC will be supported by this software :P
I bought an RX5700 XT this spring, and discovered that my 5 year old i5 was such a bottleneck that it was almost equivalent to my RX480 😅 Returned it, and now I'm waiting for the next AMD CPU and GPU line-up to build a new rig.

Quoting: HoriAll the components seem to default to RGB colour cycling which means that unless I can configure them to a specific colour using software, my PC will be puking rainbows all the time, which isn't exactly the look I'm going after.
You should consider doing like the cool kids does, and set all your lights to bright blue, game late at night, then complain that you can't seem to get properly sleept in the evening or sleep properly (almost as if your circadian rythm was out of whack), then proceed to get mild depression due to lack of sleep 😋

Do you know if we still need to use the proprietary AMD driver in order to fold using the GPU?
Yes and no

You will need to use AMD's Opencl from the prop driver .

Un-install mesa opencl.
Any noob-proof guides on how to do this? 😬 It sounds very much like one of those things that I'll try on my own, only to find myself with two hours later reinstalling my system 😅

Do you know what this entails in terms of performance and stability outside of folding? E.g. will the fact that I'm using Mesa via Kisak-PPA bork the system? I really wish F@H and AMD would get this working OOTB with the default/OSS driver 😇
