What we want to see from the possible SteamPal handheld from Valve

Ah, so they've set up shop now! I knew they were planning to, but wasn't aware they'd done it yet (not that I've paid it very close attention) 😅

Kalypso Media to reduce pricing on their games as a result of doing well

Quoting: FelixSurely this must be a mistake!
Necessities of modern game development demand game be priced at 99.99$! EA told me so!
[/sarcasm]

Yes, very true, because it's so expensive to make games now, and they barely make a profit. Really, the Gaming Industry have been very kind——altruistic, almost——to allow us to buy the Basic Buy-2-Pay Experience at the low cost of ~60 USD, with Optional(TM) additional upgrades for the full experience, aka DLC and Season Pass, plus let us support the continued development and server costs via loot boxes Surprise Mechanics(TM) or Fun Presents(TM). Not to mention letting us bypass gindy gameplay elements (in both single- and multiplayer games) by allowing us to purchase TimeSavers(TM), as made famous by Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey.

This is all to say that Kalypso Media must be wrong. It's nearly impossible to turn a profit making video games! There's an entire army of poor, almost destitue, Gaming Industry CEOs ready to back up this laboratory-proven fact of science and life and economics!

(/sarcasm, if that wasn't obvious)

On a serious note, good move by Kalypso. This is a good move, both for PR and to gain goodwill among players, not to mention a great way to stand out in a good way 🥳

I guess you've already got it linked.

I know how humble works. I've bought plenty of games from them over the years, Steam keys and otherwise. They only require this linking for freebies, I assume so that they get something back for giving out free games. The information they can pull from our Steam accounts is valuable data for them after all.

I stand corrected. I just checked in the settings and you're right, the accounts are already linked.

It's strange why, though, as I can't really think of anything that this link "does", unlike e.g. EA and Ubisoft where you "need" it to be able to launch your Uplay or Origin account. Other than pulling data, of course.

I already had the base game, so I essenstially "upgraded" to Deluxe now 😅

Quoting: tuubiIn addition to the newsletter thing, there's the additional catch that they require you to Link your Steam account. And while there used to be a button in your profile to unlink, when I wanted to do it a while back the button was gone and their customer service person actually demanded a "good reason" to do it. Took them about a couple of weeks to get it done. Just FYI, in case you care.

You don't need to link you Steam account, but you need to have a Steam account in which to redeem the key.

What you do (or at least, what I did): "Get the game". Click the link to Redeem Now (either in Preview or in the email you'll get). Scroll down past the bundles, click to reveal and copy the code. Open Steam, go to the top toolbar, click Games > Activate a Product on Steam. Done :)

Edit: I take it back :) It seems my Steam and Humble account was linked 😆🤦‍♂️

What we want to see from the possible SteamPal handheld from Valve

Quoting: AppelsinThey need to be in *normal* stores. Everywhere. Being only on Amazon (and barely there even, at that) is what made the Steam Link and Controller a mere bog unicorn. You'd heard of it, but not really.

Experiences obviously differ from country to country, but in the EU the purchase of Steamlink and Controller worked perfectly fine via the Steam store itself.

Oh and funny to read your experience of Amazon in Norway, because at least in Germany even people that don't like Amazon grudgingly admit that ordering from them is fastest, most convenient and returning anything is super easy and customer friendly. So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, I certainly wasn't allowed to buy one from them, and not for lack of trying 😂 Just goes to show how willy-nilly the "effor" in selling it was x) I mean, those of us who're actually interested usually get a hold of it of we want to, but that's not how you move units; it's how you make a niche product that will flop 🤷🏻‍♂️

Since Amazon doesn't actually operate out of any nordic country (yet), we usually have to order from the US (or UK or German) store, which usually leaves us at the mercy of whatever passes for Amazon "international" customer rights in the US. Thus having/wanting to return anything will leave us with a shipping cost for abroad, which isn't cheap.
In most Norwegian (and Swedish and Danish too, I guess?) online stores, you have 30-60 days "open purchase" with free returns and for the most part free shipping (at least for orders above ~100 EUR) (while the law requires a 14 day change-your-mind time, where it's up to the store who pays the return shipping fee).

That said, I'm aware that Amazon, in many countries, are actually considered to be a very good option. But does that say most about Amazon or the other stores? I think Amazon have been trying to step up their game here, since they want to establish here (at least in Sweden), and to be able to displace our normal stores (like they do wherever they go), they need to offer quite good prices, free and almost instant shipping, and free returns nearly no questions asked with really, really good customer support and warranty.

Quoting: jrtI think it needs to be on store shelves and on Amazon if they want to get some share of the console/mobile game market. Advertising it on steam is limiting the success because people who have steam, probably already have a PC that can run games.

Advertising it on Steam, and then not even selling it to you, like they did with the Controller and Link, will have people pass it by in sheer frustration over not being able to buy it.

Valve needs to either include some sort of system where clicking the SteamPal page will also tell you where you can get it in your region, ()and/)or distribute it themselves.
If I, in Norway, were to click the SteamPal page, and then be told I'd have to buy it from Amazon, I'm not buying one. Buying an ethernet cable from Amazon is OK, but you don't buy anything expensive which might require the use of warranty. Also, you'd likely pay a shipping premium costing half as much as the console itself. And it would arrive with a hole in the middle.

They need to be in *normal* stores. Everywhere. Being only on Amazon (and barely there even, at that) is what made the Steam Link and Controller a mere bog unicorn. You'd heard of it, but not really.

Hints appear of Valve making a handheld Steam "SteamPal" Neptune console

If so, then

A) Valve needs to build them themselves.

B) They need to actually sell them to those who want to buy them. Even if they live outside the US!

If not, then DOA.

The Steam Controller and Link was teasing people on Steam for ever, with approximately zero ways of actually buying one most places in the word (e.g. in Norway), except buy if off Ebay. Which, incidentally, is where my Steam Controller comes from.

TUXEDO release the configurable InfinityBook Pro 14 with a crisp 16:10 display

Now we're talking! Only thing missing now is to pair that sweet ratio with some Red innards, and the fancies can be considered tickled 🥳 (Edit: Just to be clear, by "Red innards", I mean of course AMD CPU/GPU in case anyone was in doubt😄 )

- Norwegian keybord: Æ, Ø, Å!
- 32 GB RAM (or even 64 GB!)
- 16:10 <3
- 16:10 3K!
- A touchpad that actually seems to know that it's not 2008 anymore (I'm looking at you, 2900$ Thinkpad, with your Aliexpress touchpad)

And I love that Tux on the meta key :D

Have anyone tried these (or other laptops from Tuxedo) and can comment on how the keyboard and touchpad are to use?
For reference, I use 2013 MBP 13" and Tuxified 2015 MBP 15" daily, and a 14" HP Elitebook anno 2019 for work.

16:9 = Big narp on that one. I'll keep my old 16:10 MacbookTux, tyvm.
Intel = Meh, no thanks.

Seriously. Can we PLEASE stop with 16:9? It was bad in 2010, it was bad in 2015 and it's still bad in 2021. I get that they are cheaper than proper aspect panels, but come one.

16:9 is horrible on anything smaller than a 27". And even then it's not good. /rant >_<
