Quoting: on_en_a_grosIn addition to that Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is free to keep on steam, happy gaming weekend (◠‿・)—☆
I saw that and grabbed it, but isn't it still unplayable on Linux due to EAC?

Quoting: Penglinghings simple, would I be best off just checking out Vampire Survivors first (as opposed to other titles that take the idea in different directions) to see if it does indeed overlap with my tastes as it sounds like it might?

Questions aside, veteran Japanese developer Sunsoft is currently staging a comeback, and one of their new offerings will be Ikki Unite [External Link], a up-to-16-player title which they've apparently said is somewhat Vampire Survivors-inspired.
yeah, probably check out VS first - you can also try the free prologues for Soulstone Survivors or, as scaine mentioned, Spellbook Demonslayers (which I haven't tried yet). I hadn't heard about Ikki Unite, from the trailer it definitely looks like it belongs in the genre
You also don't really have much to lose by trying VS - it's dirt cheap.

Quoting: sprocketWhat specifically separates Horde Games from the more traditional Twin Stick Shooter?
It depends how strictly you define the genre. Vampire Survivors, specifically, is very different. It's not a twin stick shooter in any sense - weapons fire automatically and aren't aimable; whether you hit depends on placing your character in the correct place at the correct time. Also, as mentioned in the article, there are no distinct levels, but just a horde of enemies that get progressively bigger, more numerous, and more powerful.

YouTube thought my Steam Deck video was 'harmful and dangerous'

Quoting: ShabbyXWhile this was obviously a bug in their algorithm, said algorithm is also preventing brainwash videos from turning your child into a terrorist, racist etc.

Would you have rathered such an algorithm not exist? People should bear in mind the terrible complexity that such an algorithm entails. Can *you* code such an algorithm? If not, you can't expect it all to work flawlessly.
I don't think you've seen what's actually on YouTube Kids.

Let's just say you don't need to leave your kids alone with YouTube.

Steam Deck Beta gets Firefox as Flatpak, mentions "future controller hardware revisions"
29 Jul 2022 at 12:28 pm UTC

Quoting: setzer22But the connotations of calling a company a "copycat" are quite negative
Well, I'm not the one who said it, but I have no issue with calling GPD that. They are a shit company and they are literally jumping on not only the "Linux bandwagon," but specifically SteamOS, after spreading outright lies about Steam Deck. I have no sympathy for them.

Quoting: Craggles086and with the copy cats coming out trying to emulate what Valve are doing with the SteamDeck, maybe one or two will have another go with the PC too.
Never heard of Steam Deck copycats. There's a bunch of companies working on handheld PC systems but those have been around for years prior to the Deck's announcement.
Look back through the archives a couple of weeks. One of these companies (which previously shit all over the Deck for reasons including "it runs Linux so it will suck") has recently announced plans to install SteamOS on future handhelds, and another has announced its own rival Linux-based gaming OS.

Mojang say no to NFTs and blockchain with Minecraft

Quoting: Nic264And shady stuff like Blockverse should be regulated by law, not by software EULAs.
"Shady stuff" encompasses literally every use of NFTs that has happened so far. You are of course free to imagine a non-scam application for NFTs. Theoretically such a use should be possible. But it seems very unlikely at this point.

JSAUX are filling the Steam Deck accessory gap and have a Docking Station ready
9 Jul 2022 at 2:50 pm UTC

Quoting: denyasisYes. It's all but necessary for multiplayer. Or at least I can't think of a way to do multiplayer without standing up the Switch.
Dock it and play it on the TV? I guess for multiplayer on the go, yeah, the kickstand makes sense. Outside my use case though.

I'm not sure I really understand the point of the "dock" so much. The hub makes perfect sense, but standing the Deck up doesn't seem all that useful. Does anybody use/ plan to use it this way? I've never used my Switch standing up either - it's either handheld or docked and displaying on my TV.

Valve to ship 'more than double' the number of Steam Decks each week

Quoting: hardpenguinGood! Now how about that Steam Controller 2.0...
I think the Deck illustrates exactly what they were trying to do with the Steam Controller in a way that hopefully will finally make sense to people.
