What we expect to come from Valve to help Linux gaming in 2021

Linux is more than just gaming in terms of adaptation, just a little reminder.
Valve are doing all they can, and if we were to be a tad objective - more than they should. But we are very grateful for that. We are on a nice progression as it is with the work of the WINE team, lest not forget them, and the Proton implementation. It's gone really far in the short amount of time it has been around which is something people seem to forget.
The "king" of gaming are online games. I think having EAC especially will be crucial for gaming on Linux. A stone in the shoe is, however, all these damn extra launchers popping up which are extra hurdles for people to navigate around.
Rome was not built in a day. It's still going to take many years to reach the arbitrary level people want Linux adaptation to reach.

Quoting: corqHahaha yeah when the big fights go down I totally lose my oversight. And there are so many damn items to think about and buy. I sure am glad a game like Overwatch never had that and I can also keep a bitter focus in that even though it is first person. After 70 hours, I still don't know what to play in Dota. Hard to learn, hard to master.Quoting: officerniceMan... I still suck so bad at this game (even after watching guides) but it is so fascinating to play. It's really hard to come by someone friendly and helping in it... xDI'm in the same boat I play Junglers so I can stay out of the way but tactically I suck once real battle is needed and end up feeding if I even try, or standing off to the side and feel like I'm not contributing :/
Are there any Linux guilds in EU that anybody would recommend?

I just reinstalled it which coincides well with a free weekend: https://www.pcgamer.com/world-of-warcraft-free-weekend/ [External Link]
However, I will just use Strongbox ( https://github.com/ogri-la/strongbox [External Link] / https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/strongbox/ [External Link] ) which used to be Wowman, had no problems with that one.

I suck so much at Dota. Tried it for 50 hours and still no idea what the hell was going on. Playing alone does not help it either.
Have a great weekend everybody. :)

Scream Fortress XII has arrived for Team Fortress 2, new all-time high player count

Hmm.. It's two weeks since I uninstalled it. Couldn't get a single game without headshot bots. In one KOTH we kicked more between 10-15 bots. The best team didn't even win, it was just the one that happened to have the most bots because people can't always be bothered to kick them...
I was looking forward to Scream Fortress though but I think I'll skip it this year. :/

GoG does have local pricing, though. Steam does not support my currency, DKK (Danish Krone), but GoG does. It was even better when GoG allowed you to save money due to the difference in pricing, but I seem to recall they removed that a few years back? Anyway, for me I only buy games on Steam. If a game is only on GoG then I'll buy it, but if it is also on Steam I am most likely to buy it there. That may very well change in the future but Valve's level of devotion to Linux is admirable.

Quoting: LeopardFrankly, I do not really care that much about GoG, so I definitely agree. I have seen a kind of rift with Linux users when it comes to the DRM-free versus Steam which you mention. CDPR clearly does not care about Linux at all. Valve are supporting Linux like mad and it's not like there's a huge benefit in it for them.Quoting: ShmerlThings that Linux GOG users are missing due to lack of GOG Galaxy:Quoting: MohandevirI would like to see GoG integrate Proton in some form... Maybe offer proton wrapped versions of their Windows games, if at all possible. I'd be a lot more inclined to support them. Having to deal with Lutris or wine is not something that I look forward to...I'm using regular Wine+dxvk without major problems, sometimes with esync patches too for very demanding games like TW3. I know Proton has some extra patches like scaling and such. But what other benefits does it give besides Steam integration which is pointless for GOG games?
I avoid Lutris and other high level Wine managers, since getting to control Wine directly gives you a lot more flexibility. I simply make a launch script for each game, where various variables can be adjusted, like logging level, HUD enabling and such.
-Cloud saves
-Multiplayer
-Achievements
-Auto updates
-Integration with other store fronts ( new GOG Galaxy thingy)
Tbh i don't see a reason to buy games from GOG for a Linux user besides DRM Free argument. They don't even have local pricing.
My only hope about CDPR-Gog from future is they jump onto wagon of Vulkan usage. For Cyberpunk 2077.

I can't really feel sorry for Mac users. They chose their own poison. It's bound to bite them in the butt at some point. Just like Windoze. They're more than welcome to break free of their chains, though.
