Let's see.... this makes TWO VR games that I actually want to play, and they are BOTH Half Life games. I'm NOT paying $1K for an Index for just two games. They could Announce Half Life 3 as VR only and I still wouldn't do it.

Genuinely never thought Sony would ever greenlight this. They could have recycled this for PS5 exclusivity and still had a lot of sales. Maybe they are just testing the waters?

Valve needed Linux compatibility for the Steamdeck. GOG doesn't need Linux.

Cloud gaming is like electric cars - sounds great until you get the MAJOR stumbling block of the entire thing. With electric cars, it's still the exact same problem that has plagued them since the Baker Electric launched in the 1890's - the batteries. With Stadia it's the REQUIREMENT of an internet connection.
Anything involving the cloud requires internet access, and pretty quick speeds. I live in an area where I lose internet access around once a month. My area is rural enough that video rental stores still exist. Not a Redbox, an actual store on Main Street. Even if Stadia held any interest for me I would very often be cut off from it.

Right now $100 is the difference between making my bills and not making my bills, so I don't think that I would be purchasing one even if it had an AMD/AMD CPU/GPU option. I am however optimistic for what 2022 holds. What can I say, I'm a contrarian.
My favourite 2021 games played on Linux

A list of everything played for the first time this year.
Terminator: Resistance and Annihilation Line. Loved it. Nothing new in terms of gameplay, but everything here is done well, and the franchise license is used incredibly well elevating the whole thing. Even puts you into multiple scenes from the Future War portions of the first two films. A standout is the first time you really have to face T800s and NONE of your weapons can even scratch them, forcing you to sneak and hide in a claustrophobic hospital or be gunned down instantly. It's SO TENSE, it's amazing.
Far Cry 5. Also mostly loved this. The setting is so similar to where I live in the Pacific Northwest that I felt right at home. The inclusion of multiple ammunition types allows you to use the guns you want instead of trading them out for more powerful ones in the second half of the game. I carried a 1911 through the whole game for instance, because it was effective for the whole game. Same with the bow. The endings SUCKED. I have no interest in New Dawn.
Wolfenstein : A New Order. I'm TRYING to like it. I just don't seem to.
Tacoma. Dear sweet savior, this was awful. SO BORING. It's a walking simulator featuring whiny dialogue where nothing interesting ever happens. You arrive, you clunk around, and then mercifully, it's over. I bought this hoping it would be like The Station which I found to be a stand out bit of storytelling, and TACOMA REALLY WASN'T. Avoid if you're lucky enough not to have played it.

I'm not going to bother with anything AAA made in the last five years because I just fired up Terminator: Resistance, and I had to dial down the settings quite a bit for a playable framerate at 4K. Was really cool turning off anti-aliasing after about twenty years of having it on and not noticing the slightest difference in image quality.

Quoting: LoftySo far I've played DOW2 and halfway through Far Cry 3. Gonna run through Blood Dragon next.Quoting: jarhead_hGZDoom? Awesome, means that it's a brand new FPS that I can actually run in 4K with my 5600XT.i got myself one of those fancy high refresh monitor thingies recently and being able to max out the FPS on my old hardware on titles like Quake was nice.

I buy old games on GOG. Most of it is either running in DOSbox or wine. Anything new that doesn't specifically ship linux native I default to Steam because Valve has put in and continues to put in a TON of work to make linux game-friendly. GoG offers linux options when it doesn't have to put in much work. So I buy accordingly.
