Oooh... I've been waiting for this game to get more interesting for a while now. Cell stage is neat for like 5 minutes, land stages added hours of content to Spore.

System76 tease the new Launch Heavy keyboard

I was excited and then I noticed the layout of the home/end keys. That's gonna be a no from me, those and the missing del key are some of my most frequently used.

(For those that don't know: home moves cursor to start of line, end goes to the end of the line, holding ctrl moves to top/bottom of page, holding shift selects the text from the previous to current cursor position. Insanely useful for programming and also word processing/web browsing)

Quoting: ElectricPrismI like this. I do feel that the space bar should be broken up and include [ tab ] next to it as it essentially is 4 spaces. (Does anyone use their right thumb on the spacebar anyways? It's like "R Shift" it gets used 1/100th as much as one would think)
I use my right thumb for space and r shift significantly more than left. When I was taught keyboarding we were supposed to use left shift for caping right side keys and right shift for left side keys so they get used about equally, but my left pinky is pretty weak and not very dexterous so I always ended up contorting my hands to use the right shift.

Thanks Liam,

This post encouraged me to check my status in the queue and turns out it is already my turn in the queue, up from Q3. Almost missed it!

it even has a "Super" key instead of the standard Windows logo you get on most laptops as a great little added touch
They should have used a rocket as the super key, not a text that says "super".
I always thought that the "Super Key" was supposed to have a Tux logo :thinking emoji:

Looks like iFixit have Steam Deck parts available now (Update: it's gone)
22 May 2022 at 1:33 am UTC

Quoting: BlackBloodRumCan't even get the steam deck itself yet (ordered 17th july) let alone parts for it

On the plus side, if they do enough parts I might be able to build my own without needing to wait for valve's less than 1 minute since launch a week's worth of pre-orders sent schedule for UK? :woot:

(for reference, valve, per week are shipping on average 20-60 seconds worth of orders for UK each week - at the rate valve are shipping I'll get mine by early 2023, or mid 2023 by my calculations based on 1 minute's worth of orders per week, despite them claiming I'm in Q3, I'm just waiting for the next delayed announcement.)
I'm also wondering if it will be faster to buy the parts and build the deck myself rather than waiting for the preorder.

As far as individual parts go, I wonder if the gyro is included as part of the motherboard (I imagine it would be) or if it is something to be added to the "not available as a part yet" list.

Godot Engine received a fresh grant from Facebook / Meta for XR work

This is pretty big news (not just for gaming)! I work with geospatial software and I've recently been trying to learn some AR SDKs, most of them in the industry are being built to work with Unity or Unreal (e.g. Niantic's recently released lightsail SDK), so having more XR support in Godot (which I'm more interested in learning eventually for FOSS reasons) is awesome.

It's a shame the steam deck won't have a camera because I can imagine some pretty good AR games being made with that device. Perhaps some enterprising individuals will build an extension for it...

Quoting: Seegras(out of my 1915 games or thereabouts that aren't Linux-native).
Holy...

I can't even begin to imagine testing out that many games, especially re-testing every new release of proton

A look at the top 100 Steam games and how many will work on Linux and the Steam Deck

Looks like about 11 that don't work with proton, excluding the ones that don't work because of anti-cheat.

Valve's Steam Deck dev kit got the early benchmark treatment

The user showed using a digital thermometer the back hit 42.6°C (108.68°F) and the grips stayed around 29°C (84.2°F).
It's honestly rather impressive that they were able to keep the key area (the grips) that much cooler than the rest of the system under those circumstances. Considering that's also probably the unit running at max for an extended period of time, I'd say that bodes pretty well for the device.

Stadia gets Control, Hello Engineer and more in Stadia Pro for October

Stadia has also introduced "Phone Link", allowing you to link up your phone as a touch controller or use it to connect up a third-party controller to a TV.
Pretty interesting new feature.

I've been considering lately switching to using my phone as my mobile computing device (as opposed to a laptop or tablet). If I had an external display solution figured out it would free up the phone to act as a mouse using the gyroscope/touchpad. Given our phones are always on us nowadays it means that it always be readily available.
