Starbreeze are reviving PAYDAY 2 development, Ultimate Edition is gone and DLC returns

I'm also not so serious about gaming that I need to use mouse/keyboard just to shave off a few milliseconds in reaction time. Plus, a wireless controller is much easier to use when playing on a larger screen and need to be mobile.
TL/DR: familiarity, mobility, and ease of play for casual, formerly console gamers.

Quoting: BaemirWith all due respect... why would you want to play a first person shooter with a controller?Grew up on consoles using various controllers over the years. When I switched to PC gaming it was initially all emulated games (using their original controllers if I could help it). I play with family members who are much the same; if I introduce them to a new game having controller support is essential for them to enjoy it. If I need faster response, the game usually has a sensitivity setting I can adjust.

Quoting: chui2chIs there a good guide somewhere on installing the NVIDIA driver using the run file?If you're using Manjaro, you're probably better off waiting for the updated nvidia driver to make it's way to the repos, or modify the relevent PKGBUILD(s) [External Link] for your kernel/driver combo. Manually installing nvidia drivers could interfere with mhwd.

I never got into this game as much as I would have liked. It took forever to figure out how to finally get a non-xbox controller to work with the game (workaround [External Link] may no longer be needed...haven't tested in quite a while). There were other small issues as well.
Looking forward to seeing what improvements and new content they add to the game.

Steam 'Remote Play Together' is now in Beta, allowing local multiplayer games over the net

I'm very curious to see if this will work for non-steam games. It would be very useful for things like Emulators to cut out a portion of the pre-play setup with remote players.
Manjaro Linux 18.1.0 'Juhraya' has been officially released

Additionally, the following allows you to generate a custom mirror list that shouldn't be overwritten:

Quoting: 14I have already performed the mirrorlist preferences. The problem is I don't seem to be able to type in my own mirror entry into the file. Manual touches get overwritten.
Quoting: 14Plus, and this might be outdated information, I think the update program (Octopi?) performs a pacman -Sy just to check for updates. If that is happening, it breaks the release consistency with the stuff you already have installed.Octopi is gone (thankfully). The KDE edition of 18.1.0 comes with Pamac instead. Pamac has options to choose frequency or disable automatically checking for updates altogether. It also doesn't do the infamous "partial update" that Octopi had a bad habit of doing.

sudo pacman-mirrors -i

I'm a former user of Linux Mint, Xubuntu, and Debian. I've been using Manjaro since December of 2015. I also manage ~20 towers/laptops for friends/family, all running Manjaro. I made the switch on my computers after looking for a good rolling release distro that supported Xfce.
In my experience, Arch/Manjaro are king when it comes to having access to a massive amount of the latest/greatest software without having to sacrifice stability. Manjaro's update announcements will have instructions in the rare event you need to take manual action for successful updates.
The mirrors list is updated as new mirrors are added and old mirrors go away, in addition to updating which servers provide the best connection (lowest latency). If you want to manually limit which servers it pulls from, I recommend setting specific countries with the following:

Quoting: 14In my experience, when you install Manjaro into a VM, it will install every Nvidia driver! These packages are installed on any manjaro system. They are required by the Manjaro Hardware Detection tool (mhwd). These are not the actual drivers, just profiles/ids for detecting when those drivers are applicable.

Quoting: ShmerlWould be nice if they also focus on KDE as the primary supported DE, and will help speeding up its development.
Quoting: Whitewolfe80Personally I would rather xfce became their primary and only de but thats because I like the fact its very memory efficent and i have plenty of ram i just dont like bloat code that comes with a vanilla kde base.Xfce, KDE, and Gnome are the 3 primary DE's for Manjaro. They've been more than willing to pull in the latest development packages for at least Xfce and KDE before they've been released. They've been very quick to report bugs upstream as well for many projects, not just DE's.

Quoting: ShmerlGood article which brings this topic of people who started using Linux, without understanding the value of FOSS:Make sure you read it while it's there. The Linux Journal just announced [External Link] it has closed its doors, but will try to keep the website online for a few weeks to give others a chance to archive it.

I had completely forgotten crates were even a thing in RL. Shortly after I first installed it years ago, I checked the "Hide Crates" option, which did exactly that: basically removed all references and instances of in-game crates (it was annoying to see crates as a reward after matches when I had no intention of using them).
I'm glad they had that option. This sounds like it will be a positive step as well. RL is easily one of the top 3 games I play on a regular basis.
FYI: For anyone interested in the Hide Crates option, it does not remove any crates you have, and you still earn crates during gameplay, it's just entirely hidden until you uncheck that option. I unchecked it just to see what, if anything, was there, and I have a ton of crates (maybe around 200?) and about 20 decryptors I've apparently earned.
Also FYI: If you redeem one of the free event crates (not hidden even with that option checked), if you don't open it right away you'll need to uncheck that option to access it along with the other crates.

Looks awesome. I love mario kart - style games. Can't wait to try later today.
EDIT: I played this game for about a half hour after ~330mb download. It detected and worked with my PS4 controller out of the box. The controls are just like MarioKart 64. Handling is quite familiar if you've played MK64. Charming voice acting, great mix of new-ish and retro visual styles. Would (and probably will) buy again.
