Civilization VII set for a big change to allow you to play as one civ continuously
31 Oct 2025 at 9:26 am UTC

After getting into Old World (Linux native on Steam!), I can never go back to Civ... The careful thought put into the design just is not comparable to Civ anymore. It is also updated almost monthly with balance, UI and modding support. For flashy features like sci-fi setting or magic and heroes, I would consider other 4Xs, but for the core Civ-like experience, this is it for me...
The last few months they've even been organizing the 2025 community tournament, which is an open tournament in a 1V1 format which has been followed and commentated by community members on Youtube/Twitch.
Truly the best in this format of games right now...

Here's what they said:
we continue to expand our Linux catalogue and we do our best to add Linux-supported games to our offer as often as possible.

But it's hard to tell when--or if--a specific game will undergo that treatment, as it requires not only technical work, but also licensing agreements :(

Not much to go on I guess, sad emoji...

Intel Lunar Lake arrives Q3 2024 as Intel jump more into AI

I think there actually is a big use case for professionals working on AI tech. While we may or may not have a heavy duty AI machine for training, I can tell you from experience that a lot of development happens locally, often on a portable machine in open spaces, often at home during work-from-home. So having reasonable performance on a portable form factor can be quite attractive for a modern dev workforce.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyCliches are funny things. Consider, everyone knows the "King offers daughter's hand in marriage" thing is a cliche. But how often has anyone actually done it since the days of the Grimm brothers? I've actually seen a few--but never played straight. So weirdly, it's a cliche and yet it's almost the opposite of overdone.

And really, it's not a bad idea. Consider, you've got a problem so bad it's wrecking your kingdom. The treasury is probably bare. You could offer a duchy or something, but it would have to be somebody's duchy. They would probably object, and the other nobles might back them up just on the principle that the king arbitrarily turfing dukes is bad for the duke business. Then you've got two kingdom-wrecking problems.
But offering your daughter's hand in marriage is free. All you lose is future considerations in the international alliance department. But first, you won't be doing any alliances if your kingdom-wrecking problem, like, wrecks the kingdom. And second, you end up with a great hero in your corner, which might be worth the alliance you lose. Your daughter might be miffed that nobody asked her, but nobody would have asked her if she wanted to marry whatever grubby noble would be politically expedient, either; her chances of a good marriage are probably better this way.

GOG adds a bunch of new visual novels to their store

World end economica is a visual novel that tries to portray the causes and emotional fallout of the 2008 subprime crisis in a future moon colony setting. Watching the anime lives of anime people get destroyed by financial markets might be just the push I needed to finally understand credit default swaps...
Apparently the 3rd volume contains an actual glossary of financial terms so you know this is made by people who care.

The AI experience is quite good in my opinion. It offers a fair challenge on the normal difficulty (no resource bonus or handicap) as far as I've tested. At most stages of the game there is a strategical trade-off to make between long-term gains and weak defenses or short-term aggressive play, so no perfect move really for the AI. The AI always goes for a middle-of-the-road play, so if you exploit your surroundings you can always counter-play the AI. The only issue I've picked up is in the early missions, where all game mechanics are not yet available and the AI has clearly not been designed for these constraints so is handily exploited. The end-game can be a bit of a grind, but this is a really nice little strategy game I've found.
