Quoting: LukeNukemThe last AMD CPU I had was a Bulldozer hexacore. It wasn't bad, but the power draw was insane! Constant 180w, all the time, I don't think it had power stepping or anything. Pretty stark contrast to the Intel i3 6100 I have now, with 20ish or less watt draw at idle, to 55ish at load. This plus the GTX950 gives me pretty good FPS in games while being low on power use. They're actually aiming to compete with Intel's HEDT platform, so i doubt there will be any 2-core CPUs before the Zen based Raven Ridge APUs. These will be expensive, powerful CPUs similar to Intel's i7 6900K, but possibly with slightly better power consumption if that 95W TDP is accurate(Though using TDP as a measure for power consumption is not ideal tbh). Btw, Buldozer definitely has power stepping. If it was running at full speed all the time, something was up with your system. Bulldozer wiki page [External Link] PowerNow/Cool N Quiet is the downclocking feature.
If AMD get anywhere close to this, I may consider switching since they are typically more Linux friendly (in some ways).

Hmm, they didn't announce this on the Kickstarter updates. Thanks for the heads up.
EDIT:
Well it launches for me on a R9 380 using Mesa-git on Arch 64bit. Haven't really tested it beyond starting a game and walking out of the the first room, so keep that in mind.

The game looks like it could be good for a few minutes of fun, but i can't see this having any lasting appeal.
Also, despite what the Jurassic Park movie would like you to believe Velociraptors were actually about as large as a chicken. The dinosaur depicted in the film is actually a Deinonychus(Which means Terrible Claw in Greek btw). Tbh Velociraptor does sound cooler in English.

AMD GPU-PRO Beta Driver for Linux released with Vulkan support for Dota 2

Quoting: liamdaweIt's GCN 1.0 so it's not yet supported, but should eventually be. The OSS amdgpu support for 1.0 was merged only a few days ago, anyway. Besides the driver is still in beta and they only provide packages for a single Ubuntu release. All that should get fixed in time for the official release. Hopefully sooner than laterQuoting: z3ntuWell I have a HD7970 in my tower at home, so hopefully they will support that card in the future (I mostly use my laptop (Nvidia) right now).I think it's likely such an old card will need to use the open source driver.
Ubuntu 16.04 dropping the AMD Catalyst/fglrx driver

Quoting: KimyrielleHandling graphics drivers in Linux is still an absolute pain and is probably THE single biggest obstacle for the average user to get a Linux based system ready for halfway serious gaming. Both AMD but also NVidia have to get their act together eventually and release something that installs with one click, you know...like in Windows. Right now we're a far cry from that. And no, NVidia isn't much better. Optimus. 'nuff said. You mean one click like this? https://www.vg247.com/2016/03/08/the-division-nvidia-364-47-drivers-issues/ [External Link] Driver installation is a big issue on any platform. That's why on Windows there are tools like DDU for example. That said, the situation on Linux could definitely be much better. I expect once AMD releases their userland OpenGL driver it will simplify installation quite a bit. With this announcement from Canonical in mind I'd guess the new driver will be released very soon.

Quoting: TheBossHow bout they actually release all the content with the base game for their 60€ price? Add some basic mod support and you'll have a much better chance at success. Most successful MP games have followed that path in the past. These guys tried to milk the crap out of the hype they managed to generate and it backfired on them. I'm glad it did. We need less garbage DLCQuoting: poiuzI was replying directly to Scaines comment on the skins.Quoting: TheBossSkins, skins people. It doesn't affect gameplay in ANY way. How can people even remotely get annoyed by that? It's not just skins. Hunters and monsters are available as DLC, too and they definitely impact the gameplay.
And it's no wonder that people get upset about DLC if you're looking at the prices [30 €/$ for the base game -> 80 €/$ including the important DLCs…]
As for DLC characters, so what? It's not like they have an advantage, it's all fairly balanced gameplay wise.
Would you rather they split the community with map packs?

All GCN cards(HD7xxx and newer with the exception of some 7xxx cards that are rebrands) will have DX12 support and i suspect it will be the same for Vulkan. Iirc Nvidia also has DX12 support for Fermi+ (Geforce 5xx) and that should translate to Vulkan support as well
