Very honest and clear reply. i wish more devs were as forthcoming about their future plans. Hopefully it pans out and well get to play it on Linux.

The GOL Nouveau Experiment – Conclusion

Both XCOM and Empire:TW run fine with R600, so that must be a Nouveau bug. Did you test gallium-nine at all? It's definitely worth giving a shot imo.

Larian Studios Detail Why The Linux Port Of Divinity Is Taking So Damn Long
16 Mar 2015 at 8:20 am UTC

Well at least Larian seem to be putting in the required effort to make the game provide a good experience on GNU/Linux. I hope they don't disappoint on that front after all this waiting
Quoting: FeistAs a side-note, I'm also eagerly awaiting "StarCrawlers", another rpg that now has a linux-beta available. Starcrawlers appears to be something like "Legend of Grimrock" in a space/sci-fi setting.

Yes, that's a relatively accurate discription

Quoting: PangachatI hope that "cool" thing is Vulkan support, and also hope Wasteland 2 with switching to Unity 5 get that too :P
They are https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2/posts/1149061 [External Link] although i'm not so sure about Vulkan support as it will almost certainly require the game to get ported to a newer version of Unity 5

Steam Now Has Official Hardware Pages On Its Store (UPDATED)
5 Mar 2015 at 8:09 pm UTC

Quoting: Segata SanshiroEDit: UGH just reading some of the specs on this is really annoying me! Like the Gigabyte Brix (grand prize in stupidness for this one), which is priced at $600, has an i7 but with Intel graphics... What's the point in that??? It's just throwing away money on a load of CPU power which won't ever get any use. Why not an i3 or AMD FX with a decent graphics card considering it's a gaming PC? Seriously, I think anyone with half a brain could pick better components than some of these have.
It's actually an Iris Pro iGPU with eDRAM so it's not as slow as a typical Intel iGPU, but of course it wont be enough for very demanding titles. That said i agree that all of them are overpriced like all OEM build PCs. Maybe some cheaper better priced stuff will appear closer to launch.

Legends Of Eisenwald, A Medieval RPG & Strategy Game Is Coming To Linux
16 Feb 2015 at 6:45 pm UTC

Quoting: BumadarLiam, I am a funder of this one, but you got to sort of get the facts right.

Linux and Mac was always on the list, only if they reached 100.000 it would be really close to the windows release, if not reached it would be several months later.
Well to be fair the mistake was initially mine.

Point-And-Click Adventure 'Moebius' Looks Close To A Linux Release

Did you actually sign up for a beta at some point?

Whatever Happened To Torchlight On Linux? UPDATED
25 Jun 2014 at 10:42 pm UTC

Quoting: DrMcCoyThen there's Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller, which uses Unity 3 and has had promised Linux support (with no fixed date) since at least September last year. They're looking into upgrading to Unity 4.

Also, there's X2: The Threat, which, AFAIK, had a Linux port done way back when. Both the Mac OS X and the Linux ports were outsourced, though, and from what I've seen, Egosoft never really seemed to care for either of those.

Also, Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Dragon Command, which should have Linux support coming soon-ish, after the Divinity: Original Sin launch. And the new Tex Murphy game is also still waiting on Bink, it seems.
Well in a recent Moebius backer update it was mentioned Phoenix Online Studious apparently upgraded to Unity 4(the Cognition devs/ Moebious contractors), but they are still figuring out some bugs caused by the upgrade. Also the X2 port was done by LGP and published separately(like all their ports). I wouldn't really expect to see a new X2 port tbh

Just A Friendly Reminder: Don't Buy A Game Until It Is Officially On Linux
24 Jun 2014 at 6:14 pm UTC

Quoting: Sn3ipenThis was my assumption all along. Therefore I waited to buy Civ V and Xcom until they where actually released.

If we buy games ported by third parties say one month before release, all the money have already been sent to the developers, instead of a portion going to the people that are doing the porting. This is probably because Valve have to send the money somewhere and since there is no Linux version yet, it gets counted as a Windows game.

For games that are ported in-house it doesn't matter since the money will go to the devs either way.
Actually i'm suspecting it gets counted as a Linux purchase(provided you don't play it on Windows) but the money goes to the original publisher, as the Linux version is unreleased and in essence a different product. For games that are ported in-house this should not be an issue i think as they will see it as a Linux purchase if it was bought on Linux and never played on another platform

Trolling Delays Linux Release Of The Stanley Parable

Quoting: jdubSome devs need to realize steam forums are the worst...every steam community is balls. Taking what trolls say (and there will ALWAYS be trolls) personally is really not professional...announcing it on the forums is just setting yourself up for this.
Alright then, I guess I'll have to start ignoring my email, the forums and all other channels through which the community can give me feedback.

(I don't disagree with you that the Steam forums are pretty bad in general though)
It's the Internet, people tend to be far more abusive due to disassociation and lack os serious repercussions. As developer if you want to keep an open communication line with players i think you need to learn to filter out the crap people will throw at you. You really shouldn't let comments made by a minority over the Internet affect you on a personal level as that will negatively impact your work in general.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Released For Linux
19 Jun 2014 at 11:41 pm UTC

Quoting: edoIts a shame than gaming in Linux still sucks. The r600 driver is still not good enough. Luckily I have windows too.
Actually it runs quite well on r600g with a HD5850 on Mesa 10.2. If you're having problems launching the game and you have an up to date Mesa stack it's most likely you're having issues with the Steam runtime libraries(Particularly if you're on a rolling release distro like Arch). You will have to rename/remove ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc__s.so.1 . Possibly some other libs as well. To find out launch steam from a terminal and then launch the game.
Quoting: tigeredo, you should move to nvidia as soon as possible
Maybe if you want the best performance, but Mesa 10.2 can run every game i've thrown at it including The Witcher 2, which runs at about 20 FPS for me.
