One of my all time favourite games. It blew me away when I first saw it in 1996!

I've just installed Luxtorpeda (thanks for the heads up) so I'll give it a whirl.

This has been an enlightening thread for me, thanks to everyone for chipping in.

I'm seriously looking at that Logitech MX. I don't want to be switching to another mouse for games but considering I'm average at best at FPS and the like, I don't see that being a problem.

Just reserved the top model. I'm never usually excited by hardware news but this is the exception. This will double as a Linux pad/laptop device for travelling (for myself and the Wife).

Quoting: fabertaweWasn't the original game in this style "Thrust"? I seem to recall having that on the Commodore 64.
I think that Lunar Lander from 1979 is the original and then came clones like Space Taxi (1984) and Thrust (1986)
I don't think Lunar Lander had a "carrying something on a string" physics effect though, it was just thrusters to land, IIRC. Same for Space Taxi. I could be wrong though, memory's sketchy at best these days

This looks beautiful. I really enjoyed the other previous Metro games, the immersion was great. Add some open world and this sounds right up my street.

I wouldn't mind a giveaway copy either, especially as it's my birthday this weekend (yes, really!).

I'm guessing it's low graphics settings on my GTX 970 though

I was using RISCOS back then and remember seeing Quake for the first time running on a RISCPC on the x86 addon card under Windows 98. Blew me away and still one of my all time favourite games. It came out on RISCOS itself sometime later and I spent many hours enjoying that.

I'm really glad I lived through the evolution of home computing, there were so many exciting times as it all progressed.

Great series of articles Hamish.

Edit: That should have been Windows 95. I'm shrouded in the mists of time!

I too am going to cave in and buy this as it really does sound excellent and just my cup of tea. Plus I want to support the developers.

I haven't bought a game for ages as I've quite a backlog waiting impatiently for me but this is my kind of game, so let's go explore!

I love a bit of nostalgia like this. I had a 6502 assembler cartridge for my Commodore 64 but found it clunky to use so I wrote my own assembler and BASIC toolkit. I couldn't do that now! How I loved that machine. Ahh the ravages of time :dizzy:
