The Long Dark is leaving GOG tomorrow although it will still get updates

Quoting: Kels
Quoting: fabertaweI'm so happy having no knowledge of Twitter and Facebook, etc, etc. Somebody somewhere will always be offended by everything. Free speech is already irreparably damaged in the UK.

GOG should have had more sense than to post that. The level of uproar and backlash however, is just ludicrous.
What level of uproar? Some people are upset, there have been a small handful of articles calling them out on it, and an even smaller handful of game companies (allegedly) withdrew from the storefront over it.
Maybe I have overestimated the "level" as I don't have Twitter etc. I'm only judging from what I've read here and that seems like an over reaction to me considering what GOG actually wrote.

Quoting: KelsIf you want a big hue and cry, just look at the "GOG did nothing wrong" crowd in this very thread going on about how unjust it is, and how free speech is endangered, and they'll never buy a game from Hinterland again, and how SJWs somehow run the whole world. There's histrionics for you.
I don't "want a big hue and cry", that's my point :) By "uproar" I meant everyone, irrespective of viewpoint. I guess I'm now part of it

Quoting: BrisseSo "backlash", or as I would put it, pointing out when someone did something inappropriate, is not covered under your definition of free speech? Interesting.
Of course it is, I never said otherwise. My "free speech" dig was aimed very widely at social media in general. My second paragraph was where I mentioned GOG and this specific incident.

GOG did nothing "inappropriate", just misguided.

Quoting: BrisseNot that this controversy has anything to do with free speech to begin with.
I disagree (to some extent). I find it both funny and sad that some people can get so upset at the silly pun that was actually written.

The Steam for Linux limited beta was six years ago tomorrow, where's the cake?

Wow, how time flies! I don't think you really appreciate something unless you've lived through it from the start. Those were exciting times alright.

And look where we are now, quite incredible. Like many of you I was buying up everything at the beginning but now I'm so spoiled for choice I find I'm very selective about what I buy. My wishlist hasn't moved much in the last couple of years!

Good times ^_^

You can now play as a Firefighter in the excellent Streets of Rogue, also has world Seed support

Will fire it up again to unlock the firefighter as I have everyone else unlocked. Great fun!

Lutris game manager release 0.4.22 is out to further refine the experience

Quoting: MayeulCMmm, I don't recall reading that page, but I had most dependencies... However, it seems to be working now that I installed wine-satging-nine.

I used that launcher, I think: https://lutris.net/games/overwatch/

Note that I had the same problem as fabertawe, with the battle.net launcher just closing/disappearing as soon as I launched it. I solved that issue by editing the Lutris configuration to use system wine.

So, it seems to be working more or less OK now (I am not sure whether it is because of wine-staging, DXVK 0.91 or something else), but in the tutorial, the camera always looks up. Fortunately, the FAQ you linked says it's an aspect ratio problem, so I just resized the window to make borders disappear, and it worked. Still a bit subpar of an experience, though :/ Thanks a lot anyway :)

Really... did you have to get it working? :P Now I'll have to have another crack at it!

Quoting: TurtleSharkI really hate to be the "Did you read the manual" guy, but there are very specific things you have to install to get battle.net and overwatch cooperating...
Yes, my bad! The only thing I was missing was wine-staging, instead of Wine. Unfortunately everything hangs at "Updating Blizzard Agent..."

I'm not that bothered. Just trying it out of curiosity as I had Overwatch from the Humble Monthly.

Thanks for your help anyway :)

QuoteMy son has made great use of it to play Overwatch without the need for Windows

Aha, so that's how it's done! Ok I'll install Lutris and have a go...

Quoting: MayeulCMmm... Overwatch never worked for me with Lutris, which is a shame, as I got it from the humble monthly (by the way, destiny 2 is also free for a while on battle.net). The battle.net launcher works and updates the game, then... nothing.
I might have had to use the system Wine instead of the Lutris-provided one, also, to get the launcher running at all.

Similar problem here. The Battle installer pops up for me to log in but disappears almost immediately with Lutris telling me the game's installed This is on Arch with Lutris defaults.

Quoting: sergeDoes proton count as Wine gaming ?
It's not supposed to no, since Proton is supposed to be mainly a Steam thing, which is why we will be including a Steam Play question eventually when we can get the wording and options correct.

Wooops... I've just gone back in to change it to back to "never" in that case!

The super sweet Slime Rancher just had a nice optimisation update

This is one of those games that I need to get even though I have a huge backlog.

The next big Steam sale dates have been leaked, as usual

Please Sales, give me a chance to play what I've got first, I'm begging you! :D

Sales will certainly get more interesting as Proton (compatibility) matures and the whitelist gets longer. I will always buy Linux native first but I'm certainly not against buying some very appealing Windows only games(*). Especially as there are quite a lot we'll never get ports for and as they tend to be "old" games, there'll be some good bargains to be had.

Edit: (*) For clarity: played via Proton, I have had no Win partition for many years.
