I backed this game on Kickstarter in 2012, particularly because of the Linux support. Oh boy, back then I was so young and naive...
Of the 3 games I backed that year, only 1 (Wasteland 2) has been actually released.
Glad to see Maia is still developed though! ...the third one is M.I.A.

Microsoft is trying to lock down Windows since Vista. They'll succeed sooner or later. Thankfully we have alternatives.

I remember playing Dragon's Lair in the arcades as a child. It was not very friendly to casual players like me though... It required a lot of practice, time, and money. It was designed to suck your wallet dry, basically.

A small tip for anyone working with Kdenlive and large video files

The only real BIG problem is that the final video rendering is singlethreaded, which can be an enormous waste of time.

Quoting: LeopardSome people say Blender is a very good editing program, which covered with rendering software id.It is. The user interface is a bit unconventional but the program is fast, complete, and stable.

The most annoying fan is the GF970 one. Right now the game is CPU limited and the GPU fan is not even spinning up, but at 60fps I'm sure it would kick in.

Quoting: soulsourceCiv 6 has a frame limiter, so you should be able to reduce system load also with proper multithreading.Didn't notice the frame limiter. Thanks, problem solved i guess :)
Quoting: soulsourceAnyhow, if you consider your CPU fan noise disturbing, I'd recommend to buy a better cooler. The CPU's fan is normally under 20db but if all 4+4 cores are used the noise could be annoying just because the airflow would be quite substantial.

Right now Civ6 uses 1 thread. I have a 4 cores cpu, this means that only 1 core is being used. This also means that fans are not spinning and I can play in complete silence!
Yes, it's a bit jerky at times, but in a game like this I value the lack of noise much more than 60fps.

GDC sounds like it will be fun this year with AMD, NVIDIA, Khronos, Unity & Croteam all talking Vulkan

- Xbox One compatibility, which is a really big plus
- Access to a larger pool of experienced graphics programmers
- Better tools

Quoting: KuJoSome possible reasons:I would add:
- You are working in an Microsoft Studio (-> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Studios [External Link] )
- The game studio you are working in is sponsored by MS.
- You know DirectX since the 1st version and have no interest to re-adjust your developmnet technics.
- You think (what is wrong) that Vulkan is too complex.
- Your studio focuses only on the Windows market and considers a new, alternative technology to be over-the-top.
- You work in a small studio and experiments are too risky for you.

Quoting: fasterthanlimeThis thread is full of colorful words so I'll just add this disclaimer: we're a small team [External Link] building a company with no external funding.Fair enough, just remember the less fortunate people out there suffering with their crappy 7mbit ADSL...
Also, good luck! :)

The itch.io home page is ridiculous though. It's so chock-full of gifs that it saturates my bandwidth taking almost a minute to fully load. And after it's loaded it uses 100% of a CPU core doing nothing. This is piss poor web design. In comparison steampowered.com takes 3 secs to load and 0% CPU.
