Quoting: kuhpunktI guess at this point it would be more fun to just buy all parts with a custom shell, sticks and screen and build it yourself from scratch.
But you can't buy all the parts, right? The last time I checked there was no way to get the main board and – what I was trying to find out more about at that time – no trackpads/haptic motors.
Oh, I see... yeah.

The Motherboard was sold once according to this article.

Would be neat if they had really all parts available.

Quoting: pleasereadthemanualAnd on that note, while I appreciate Valve's work on Proton and the Wine ecosystem, I know the work they're funding isn't going to help me out with the games I most play—visual novels. Most Japanese language visual novels aren't published on Steam, so Valve doesn't have a reason to care about them. Japanese publishers like DMM, DLsite, and Digiket are responsible for publishing the vast majority of digital visual novels. And they're almost always encumbered by DRM. DRM that is so particular to these publishers that Valve has no reason to fund work to make it compatible.
They fixed some Proton stuff for Diablo 4 a few months ago - that's not on Steam (yet) - and yet they fixed it.

Quoting: kuhpunktDo you know how large those "quantities" even are?
Large enough for an announcement and a dedicated web page to sell them?
Which might just be a few hundred or thousand. What else are you gonna do with them? Throw them away?

Would be cool if they would release it via Steam one day.

Quoting: GroganHmmm... that doesn't bode well that there are quantities of "refurbished" Steam Decks already.

1) People not happy and returning them
2) Returns of defective units, repaired.
Do you know how large those "quantities" even are?

Finally. One less extra launcher to become a nuisance?
Yeah... I hate to break it to you mate but... Have you seen EA, UBISOFT and all the other games on Steam from companies that have their own Launcher? If any, I'd say it's going to be "one more extra launcher to deal with on every stupid update they do" (looking at you, Ubisoft and EA).
They already said that there won't be another launcher. You just need a bnet account.

I'm just curious about the "legality" of those things. I think when Valve released the CAD-files for the Deck they said it's not for commercial purposes and that you'd have to get in contact with them if you want to sell stuff like this.

Are they licensed or did they just do it and Valve doesn't bother to do anything about it, because why bother? lol
