Quoting: furaxhornyxI seriously doubt that.Quoting: GuestYou can be sure that if only native games can get the "Verified" status, and windows-only game could be "Playable" at best, we would see a drastic increase in Native versions :wink:Quoting: Mountain ManRefusing to buy a game that doesn't run natively on your OS of choice is perfectly legitimate, and maybe we GNU+Linux users shouldn't be so damn quick to buy Windows games.Quoting: Purple Library GuyThe reality is, Proton is a perfectly viable option for Linux gamers that, in many cases, gives native-like performance and grants access to hundreds of games we would otherwise never get to play on our operating system of choice. It's also a reality that even if every single Linux gamer boycotted every game that didn't offer native Linux support, it would not compel a single developer to suddenly produce a Linux version to take advantage of what is, by all accounts, a negligible sliver of the market. I wish it weren't it so, but those are the facts.Quoting: kuhpunktAre you asking that because you don't know the person's answer or because you do know and you're waiting for their reply so you can give them a hard time?Quoting: GuestWindows only, shame... When i saw the trailer it looked like a nice game. Why is it a shame?
Proton is great, but I don't think there's any point to razzing people for preferring Linux native.
So, in the end, refusing to buy a promising game because it can only be played in Proton reminds me of the adage about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Maybe if Valve only gave the "verified" tag to GNU+Linux native games (that run flawlessly), developers would have more incentive to actually port games to our OS and ultimately support them.
Or maybe that's Valve's long-term plan ? Once a lot of games reach the "Verified" status, change the rules so that they will "lose" that precious badge if they don't go Native... Evil, but perfect

They then skipped FF2 and FF3.
Final Fantasy 4 was then released as Final Fantasy 2 in the US.
FF5 was skipped
Final Fantasy 6 was then released as Final Fantasy 3 in the US.

Quoting: itscalledrealityTrue and in the US Final Fantasy 4-6 used to be Final Fantasy 1-3, because the original Final Fantasy 1-3 was never released in the Americas.Final Fantasy 1 was released in the US as Final Fantasy 1.

So it’s possible his Steam version is actually Final Fantasy 4, but I think that was corrected and the original Final Fantasy 1 got a crappy graphics update. The original experience (graphics and balancing) is perfect to me.FF 1 to 6 all got a Pixel Remaster and are all numbered correctly.

I'm just curious how they handle people using multiple OSs.
Like plenty of people use Windows on their desktop, but switch over to Linux when they use their Steam Deck. How does that count?

Quoting: Mountain ManI know, but there are still like 300 people at Valve and you don't need that many to run Steam.Quoting: kuhpunktPositions are not as clearly defined at Valve as you might expect, and employees can freely move from one project and position to another depending on their interests. So just because someone might have the job title "level designer" doesn't necessarily mean he spends 40 hours a week designing levels for games.Quoting: subYes - but if they weren't developing games anymore, why employ them? They earn good money at Valve and they aren't doing nothing.Quoting: BeamboomImagine sitting on a *guaranteed* multi million seller game franchise and choose NOT to release a sequel.Well, I guess we're easy to overlook the numbers.
And they even have several of those. They're livin' the good life over there at Valve.
While it seems to be big money, it's actually significantly less compared to Steam sales
and putting all your resources in there.
The estimates for Valve's annual revenue is like 7-10 billion USD.
Compare that to the total of sold Half Life copies (~ 9 million) over many, many years -
even if you assume they were all sold at max price (they weren't).
In particular, if you consider how much pressure it must be for Valve always trying to keep
or surpass their standards for their games (I can only imagine). So there is a risk for reputation loss.
Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see Valve getting back to their franchises.
And there IS room for hope. And I'd also claim there is way more value for Valve having those franchises alive
with recent high-class releases than "just" what they directly earn from them.
I just hope they see this.
Point is, you can't look at job titles at Valve and get any idea of what is happening inside the company.

Quoting: BlackBloodRumOf course. It's just that people often treat the failure of the Steam Machines as this disaster where people were now just sitting on worthless hardware that collects dust. That's obviously nonsense.Quoting: buckysrevengeWhat's nice about those of us that bought Steam Machines back in the day, they've greatly benefited from all of Valve's work on Proton. Now if they could just properly migrate the Deck UI, we'd be set. I bought my Alienware Steam Machine r2 a little over 5 years ago, did some minor upgrades and it works better than ever now that I can play even more of my library. It's not only beneficial to Steam Machines/deck though.
