Yeah, no thanks. I still remain unconvinced that this VR hype is anything more than a passing fad, I'm certainly not willing to splash that sort of cash on dedicated hardware to play VR games.
Beat Saber won't go away.

Quoting: ArdjeI don't know where it is build. Doesn't really matter. The Steam Controller as well as the Steam Link were shipped from the Netherlands when ordered from the Netherlands.
So there is not extra tax.

Quoting: devnullNext question is shipping from where. I don't know of any distributor with stock yet.
From the USA. They build that stuff in their own factory.
If Valve don't licence their hardware to third party manufacturers from around the world, it will be a complete commercial failure... It seems that nobody learned nothing from the VIDEOCASSETTE war.
Why? Seems to work fine for the Steam Controller.
Maybe if you live in the USA or another country with an strong currency...
But for the rest of the world, specially countries like Argentina, is impossible...
You won't find an Steam controller at retail stores...And if you do, it will be more expensive than an Xbox controller.

Here in Argentina, you will find an Steam controller for about 100 and 150 U$D at digital store Mercadolibre..
meanwhile, an Xbox 360 wireless is about 70USD.

I repeat. If they don't learn from the mistakes of the past, they will do it again...
But what does that have to do with licensing this out to third party manufactures? Who does this? Apple produces their own iPhones.

Risk of Rain 2 works very nicely on Linux thanks to Steam Play, it's also pretty crazy

Quoting: TheBardSteam Play is a wonderful thing but we still need two things:
  • Linux sales that count as Linux ones and not Windows

  • Official Linux support either natively or via Steam Play

It is known since the release of Proton that your game will count as a Linux sale if you play it with Linux.

Quoting: MayeulCI had a blast with this one, was really surprised at how smoothly it went. However, I agree that I am a bit afraid they might add some anti-cheat and ruin compatibility with Proton.
Anti-Cheat is for competetive games, though. Risk of Rain doesn't need that.

Woops - Valve accidentally put up the Valve Index, Base Station and Controllers unfinished store pages

Quoting: Hal_KadoLooks like an unintentional leak to me. I think the interesting bit is the multiple cameras seem to indicate inside-out tracking, but they are still offering base stations....perhaps the headset will offer both options (which would be awesome IMO). It also seems virtualLink will not make it into this headset.
The cameras won't be for inside-out tracking, just for pass-through and maybe handtracking or something.

"Following the leak of the Steam product page for the Valve Index headset (detailed below), a spokesperson for Valve tells Road to VR that the information “while not comprehensive, is accurate.” The spokesperson also said that the company is targeting May 1st for a full reveal of the headset which will include pre-orders, with shipping planned some time in June (though the exact date is not yet confirmed). Knuckles will also be sold alongside Index, and Valve plans to call them “Valve Index Controllers” going forward."
