Quoting: ShmerlNot YET untied.Quoting: LeopardOh , Sudden Strike 4 on GOG doesn't have mp support for Linux because they rely on GOG's Galaxy client which doesn't exist on Linux.Which only highlights, that Steam multiplayer backend is not untied from Steam, so developers have to duplicate efforts setting another backend or cut out functionality, or not release outside of Steam at all. I'm not sure if I'm totally off, but Valve works on "platform-independent account identity."

Doesn't that mean that it's NOT locked in?

Quoting: ShmerlSounds like another lock-in. I've seen at least one developer saying they'll stop updating their game on itch.io, because they want to add multiplayer, and since it needs NAT traversal, they decided to rely on Steam's service for it. Which means they can't use it with versions released in other stores... (It's also a clear example how the lack of IPv6 is causing harm).,
So I don't see this as a good thing at all. Proper network services should not be tied to stores and developers should be able to use them no matter where they release. I suppose those don't need to be free, but tying them to a specific store is simply wrong.

Linux is probably unpopular in China, because it can't be pirated.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThe new DOOM is 71 GB, Project Cars 2 is 52 GB, Deus Ex Mankind Divided is 60 GB. Those are the biggest games I have installed at the moment :DQuoting: 14I don't enjoy having a 50 GB game backup eating up disk space.50 . . . gigs. For one game. I've had hard drives way smaller than that. I've had adventure games I plugged away at for hours and never finished that were 16K. OK, I didn't finish them mostly because they were badly designed, but still. What is the excuse for a game taking up 50 gigs?
Sorry, my old curmudgeon is showing, but really . . . 50. gigs.
Apparently Valve are working with Easy Anti-Cheat to get support in Steam Play (updated: yup)

Quoting: EhvisNot a single game, just need to put something that's worth 30€ in the cart. I bought 2 games, got 5€ off and paid 25,98€. So instead of ~9€ they just made ~4€.Quoting: kuhpunktYou get 5$/€ off your first purchase above 30$/€. They literally pay this out of their own pockets. You pay less, the devs still get everything.Apparently it's too late for reading properly. :O Well, their cut is still more than that, so they'll cope. It's not clear about whether that must be a single game, so I suspect a bunch together will qualify as well.

The 15000 tokens are just required for the additional 5€ off.

I received 5000 tokens and I have a suspicion that that is the maximum amount. Since you need 15000 to get 5 euro off, you need to spend 83 Euro to get there. I small return from the money they earn.

Quoting: iiarihttp://i.imgur.com/4sa1Ln6.jpg [External Link]Quoting: scaine...you've raise the excellent point that a threat to Steam/Valve is indeed a threat to your carefully horded (and paid-for) steam library. We're just renting those titles (permanently) rather than owning them.Outstanding point... Good question about Epic, and I agree with you that given their history, draconian is what we could probably expect on DRM...
Is Epic running the same gig? Or can you download a DRM-free version of their titles for play without the need for the Epic launcher? Knowing Epic, I'd expect both a forced launcher AND draconian, bullshit DRM on everything.
