Quoting: robvvThe title Resident Evil Village sounds like it ought to be a theme park :-)I agree they could have called it just Resident Evil VIII, but in their defence there aren't actually many words starting with VIII-like characters such as Village.

It just means it's a new runtime with updated libraries, don't bother with it Steam handles those in the backstage.
Just found the readme https://gitlab.steamos.cloud/steamrt/steamrt/-/blob/steamrt/sniper/README.md [External Link]

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoWhat is Steam Linux Runtime - SniperLikely the latest steam runtime (collection of specific version of library dependencies) container. They each have a TF2 class as their name, previous one was Soldier. It just means it's a new runtime with updated libraries, don't bother with it Steam handles those in the backstage.

2 sets of HD PBR materials (classix and vibrant) for individual variations (tattoos, hair, facial air, skin tone) for dozens of different units for all factions accross the 3 expansions (Rome, BI and Alex).
You will only load a few of these on a given battle but the possibilities are actually quite immense.
Adding on top of that new high resolution UI sprites, new HD particles effects, reworked props specific to each map with high resolution textures, new water shaders (dynamic waves on battlefield for example), improved whether conditions, third party dynamic sky solution, whole new voiced tutorial.
The rework detail level felt quite overachieved to work with and resulted in huge game data. Repository checkouts took like forever in the morning.

On the other hand, there was an attempt at parallelizing the battle map pathfinding (and global actions resolution as it's tightly linked) but given the initial algorithm wasn't deterministic (which was the main issue with multiplayer desyncs), this specific code was only partially optimised. Though assets and maps were remade and a huge amount of bugs from the initial game were fixed so it should clearly behave better globally (I can think of one significant example which is the fortifications on which units placed better).

Quoting: bakgwailoI wish they had fixed the pathfinding, or done something to at least make it better if it can't be completely 'fixed'.Campaign map pathing was remade and features extended.

Quoting: mahagrI'm really happy that Feral is still doing Linux ports as their games tend to perform a bit better than Windows binaries.I usually praise Feral, but this is not one of their port, this is 4A's work for once.

I do not wish to win a copy as I want to support the devs for such behaviour directly, though that's nice and I would gladly contribute to see this kind of copy winning event more often!

Total War: ROME REMASTERED announced with cross-platform multiplayer

But you guys will notice that's actually the first ever windows release from Feral and it was quite the hurdle.
While it could have technically been possible, the new front end renderer is based on dx11 so it's likely what will be used on windows.

Quoting: GuestI wonder if the Windows release will use Vulkan under the hood. Guess it depends on how extensively the original code base was modified. Suppose we'll find out in just over a month.I can't get into specifics.

Yet campaign is a huge mess, we'd have had way more chance at it if the remaster was made from scratch. :dizzy:

Quoting: SchattenspiegelI can neither confirm or deny this information.Cross-platform Multiplayer: Players can enjoy cross-platform multiplayer between Windows, macOS and Linux, a first for the Total War franchise.I know I have repeatedly asked for this feature for the franchise and the effort is appreciated, but if I remember correctly Rome does not have a multiplayer campaign...
Still - one of the few remasters that actually peeked my interest!

A remaster is usually free cash, you get the rights and you have already have an engine/gameplay base and art is done. Just polish it a bit and you're set.
Yet sometimes people are perfectionists, it takes years and it cost you way more than excepted, but you'll guys will judge the outcome in a month or so.
But yeah you're right on that part, Feral took a turn in what they plan next, let's hope it ends up better for them.

Quoting: PhlebiacAspyr started doing this (remasters, publishing) shortly before they all but disappeared. :(When you port a game, you usually own/share the rights of the IP for that platform.
Let's hope Feral survives better than they did.
