So, Ive been testing Brave and Vivaldi and both seem usable and fast, but I read where Brave is more open source.

Are either of these better than the other? are there better options out there?

Hot on the heels of the Steam Frame announcement, SteamVR Beta 2.14.1 brings more fixes

Crazy, I tried Steam Link yesterday and today and still getting the Steam VR - Error 499 (Video Encoder) issue on Arch (EOS) and Fedora 43 - two separate AMD systems.

ALVR continues to work without issue.

Its funny because a couple beta versions ago it was working perfectly with Steam Link :(.

Oh HELL yeah! ALVR is pretty good too though, but would be nice to have native support from Steam :).

I havent heard from her in years, but found out that her dad still had a closet full of those old games still in their original package LOL.

Does anyone have their Valve Index even working in Linux these days? I cant get it to run anything. Used to work - I played completely though Alyx on Linux a couple of times, but then gave it up for a couple months last year and just started to get back into it and nothing works.

I can install it... set up the room... but after I install ANY game and click play in my headset, it just goes right back to the play button. Nothing in /tmp for dumps, just doesnt work. I even tried the Proton version... Same!

I get errors trying to load the room.. All I can see is the wireframe "Room" and thats it LOL.

Its $9 on steam right now, so I payed "Again" for it to see if I can get it to work. What version of Proton does it work on best? Can we use GE-Proton for it?

Im installing it now, just wanted to get some ideas...

The best Linux distribution for gaming in 2023

Ive been using and supporting Linux personally and professionally for over 20 years so consider myself an expert in the OS for the most part. I constantly use "Harder" distros, because I can fix the issues that usually come up.

BUT - its my day to day job, so when I get home and want to play a game, I dont want to fix shit. I want to play! So, I have to agree - Ubuntu and its off-shots seem to be the most solid choice as they are the most visible and get the most support.

Case in point - my Valve Index runs WITHOUT issue on Ubuntu and its spins... But I have nothing but issues on Arch and its spins... So, when I want hassle free playing (More or less), I go with Pop_OS. Ubuntu is fine, but I just like System 76, so use that.

Anyway, my 2 cents - hope you dont want a refund :-D.

How do you get it to run? I installed in my Arch install and all 3 versions immediately fail and bring be back to the Play button... Dont see any logs either.

Seems I'll be replaying Half-Life 2 again soon but this time in VR
