MATE 1.26 is out now with big changes like initial Wayland support

Quoting: FredrikWell Nouveau is useless unless you got a really old nvidia card, it has like 10% of the performance of the official drivers so thats not an option.
The point is: None of those problems you described are the compositor's fault, developers can't make miracles without the information their need, it would take many years to reverse engineering something complex like drivers with firmware signed.

CodeWeavers still hiring for a 'General Wine Developer' to work on Wine and Proton

Quoting: GuestI'm a software engineer in Canada working for a financial institution. I'm a full stack developper working on web applications with C# .NET. I have no experience with C but I'm willing to learn. Also, I'm a contractor.

Do you guys think they would hire someone like me ?
If those are your only experiences then I don't think so because C# and C/C++ are way different program languages. For example, C# has garbage collector and you don't have to work with pointer if you don't want, while in a language like C you have to work with it a lot. You also need to be experienced with debugging and compiling outside of Visual Studio.

Of course I don't mean you can't learn those things and take the job, but you have to do this before though.

No exposure to Microsoft code or reverse-engineering of Microsoft software
Interesting, I thought wine worked reversing engineering the calls from the software. I think this may be about only "Microsoft Software" and not windows only programs in general?

Quoting: SamsaiThe situation is actually the other way around: Nvidia doesn't support wlroots (since they don't support GBM).
That's what I thought, it's important to make those things clear nowadays...

Quoting: FredrikNo thx wlroots has no nvidia support at all.
Not even nouveau? that's odd...

The original Quake got a new enhanced edition, Steam Play tool Luxtorpeda updated for it

Giving it's related to a company who release Skyrim to every single platform but Linux this causes me 0 surprises. (and don't come with "it's a Id Software game" because they're not independent company for many years)

But I would like to praise again the good job of Luxtorpeda developer in facilitating the process of playing these games natively.

Quoting: furaxhornyxYep, I love cinnamon, and I think there still have no plan to switch to Wayland.
I stopped to use Cinnamon because the lack of wayland and no sign of future support it, which is a shame because is one of my favorite DEs

Quoting: furaxhornyxOn the other hand, I am still stuck with an nVidia card, so...
I suspect they're stuck with Nvidia too (mint boxes), that's why they're not saying anything about wayland because it wouldn't work well with their product (and of course they'll never state this officially for obvious reasons)

Quoting: HoolyXFCE are still debating whether they will port to Wayland at all, because "We do not have the resources to maintain our own Wayland compositor"
I'm aware of their situation, that's why I think this decision could help both the project (not to confuse with "I think it will happen") and they both should try to implement wlroots instead of an in house compositor.

Any DE who doesn't support Wayland, sooner or latter, tends to no longer being relevant to the majority of users in the future (not counting those corner case of users who'll stay with x11 for some reason), which will be sad because those are very good desktop environments.

Quoting: Nocifer- the transparent filesystem compression (everything is configurably compressed on the fly, so you get less used space for the exact same contents)
Wouldn't this have impact on performance? Since it sounds like the file would need to be "decompressed" before its use.

I mean it sounds very good for storage disks, but I have doubts with something dynamic like games (of course I'm not expert on this subject)
