MATE 1.26 is out now with big changes like initial Wayland support

I wish Mate and XFCE team could join forces to adopt and support wlroots compositor in order to improve it. I think those awesome but underfunded projects would have a lot to gain from this kind of mutual collaboration.

Manjaro Linux 21.1.0 Pahvo is out with installer improvements, new desktop upgrades

Quoting: NociferYeah, btrfs is certainly one of the best unknown gems of the Linux world, and implementing first-class support for it is certainly welcome. I expect and hope that now with Valve selecting it as the filesystem for the Steam Deck, more people will get to install it on their own systems (in an attempt to enjoy the full benefit of Valve's efforts on Linux gaming, which will probably include btrfs features like reflinks) and find out just how awesome it is.
What are the advantages of btrfs over ext4 (despite the RAID ones)? Any kind of performance improvements?

Quoting: PhlebiacI see it's basically a UI to quickly enable/disable a bunch of GNOME extensions. So nothing really new, other than easy switching between groupings of them.
The simplicity is what makes it a must have for me.

Quoting: PhlebiacCan you explain what this changes exactly - or link to some site that describes it?
You can change the default layout of gnome with one click

Here [External Link] you can see how it works

With this release the major supported desktops have been upgraded with GNOME 40, which sees the Manjaro team tweak the layout used to more closely follow standard GNOME with "some adjustments to reduce the pointer travel for users who prefer using mouse with gnome". However, they also supply a "legacy" layout option too which gives you a different approach if you prefer it.
In my opinion their layout switcher function is a must have extension, it's the thing that makes gnome "usable" for me.

Valve puts up a Steam Deck trailer and the head of Xbox seems to really like it

Quoting: Eike... just without the security fixes. Oh man, I hate this trend.
Unless we have official support from them, which I find it odd that we don't have this partnership yet between Valve and those third parties, considering that Steam is one of the most famous stories of the world.

Nice to know Valve is somewhat worried about it this time, I hope this doesn't involve too much typing with those controls (I don't remember if it's touch screen).

But personally I still expect to some kind of dedicated app (and maybe even inside steam client in the future, who knows...)

Quoting: CatKillerIt's just visiting Netflix with Steam's built-in browser and adding a bookmark.
For you and me sure, but users will expect something similar to a android app. So you can expect someone to built an electron app with a shinny N icon on it (or maybe a flatpak), which in practice it's the same thing

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThat last bit is one question mark I still have about this device, actually.
Well, I mean, it's a PC--obviously in general, in the abstract, you can install third party apps (and OSes!) on it. But I'm talking, certain popular third-party things like Netflix, with an absolute minimum of effort, in ways that are downright user-subservient.
You can expect youtubers making videos like "HOW TO INSTALL NETFLIX IN YOUR STEAMDECK!!!" which in practice is just they teaching how to get through some aur package.

Personally I'm ok with that, This way only people interested in tweaking the device will mess with this part, and can encourage users (who are willing to) to learn something from Linux as result.

And of course, giving a hypothetical success scenario, third party companies will start to support those apps officially.
