Quoting: j_c_pSee my edit about the SSE* instructions ;).
Otherwise, I can buy the game at "release" to try if it works, but I don't have a high speed network and I prefer to be sure that the game is compatible before buying it.
Don't get me wrong, i still think phenom 2 and even FX cpus were pretty good when they released, price to performance.. just not so for singlethreaded gaming. But with todays standards they are both quite weak. Its a bit better situation under windows, cause dx11 has some tricks for better threading and not pulling cpu that much, but even there those cpu's show its age and are not really great for todays games, unless you are heavily GPU bound :), in which case your performance will suck anyway.

Quoting: j_c_pOf course Xpander, but F1 2017 is a Vulkan game and the Phenom II X6 is a quite capable CPU (mine is overclocked of course) with a better IPC than FX processor.
like i said its not so 1:1
Vulkan isn't the magic bullet that makes all the cores more usable. your phenom has 6 cores, i5 has 4, even if the game uses all those 6 cores to full potential, those i5 4 cores are still faster cause of the IPC.
Vulkan is more multithreaded in theory yes, but it has to be programmed that way as well. IPC still matters more sadly. And then ofc there are all the other capablilities of CPUs, like SSE4 and so on which your phenom doesnt have.

Anyway you can buy the game to test it out, if it doesnt work then refund if you played less than 2 hours within 1 week after purchase

FX and phenom CPUs have pretty much half of the IPC compared to say Skylake or Ryzen, so that is what makes the performance so bad on OpenGL which is really not multithreaded enough.

so with a FX cpu for example you would need a 7Ghz clock to match 3,5ghz Skylake :)

ofc everything is not so 1:1, but you can get the picture why its like that

Quoting: ageresOnce again, no AMD CPUs are mentioned.
6600K is mentioned at 3,5ghz and since we know that Ryzen instructions clock per clock is pretty close to skylake, it should also mean that 3.5ghz ryzen cpu is recommended.

GTX 1070 as recommended :D... thats for 1080p?

I wont be able to max the visuals in the game on 1440p then :(

have to wait for new GPU's to come out some day next year to upgrade :D

NVIDIA 387.22 driver released, adds support for the GTX 1070Ti and more

Already on this driver, havent played much though, but driver seems to work great as always. Don't have a Gsync monitor (its freesync one) to test the stuff in the release notes

Want to see F1 2017 on Linux before release? Feral will be livestreaming on Wednesday

Quoting: FredO...

By the way, this is a big feature - is this the first Feral port to have online play with Windows? :
"On Steam, race online against macOS, Linux and Windows players with a full grid of 20 cars, both current and classic."
no. Grid Autosport and Dirt Rally have that as well.

F1 2017 is officially coming to Linux, releasing November 2nd from Feral Interactive

wohoo, nice!

a bit late though. 2017 season will end at the end of November, but still better than F1 2015 that was released when the 2016 season started.

Can't wait to play it!

Get ready to become a neural detective as 'Observer' is now on Linux, AMD not supported

Pretty good game so far. Interesting story and really great visuals. I wish FoV was bigger though, i get motion sickness when i turn too fast in the game. Doesn't run amazingly good also. It seems it has the Unreal Engine "Smooth FPS" thingy enabled 30-63FPS or whatever it used to be. Never seen it go above 63FPS. Might need some ini file tweaks for it.

Quick gameplay video also (with as small amount spoilers as possible):

Quoting: LinasAnybody brave enough to try it on AMD and post the results here, so I can make a risk-free purchase? ;)
you can make it risk-free. you have a refund option if it doesn't work
