Exclusive interview with Gaslamp Games

Quoting: "MyGameCompany, post: 3400, member: 68"Sigh.

I wish more devs would find and read my Linux development articles up on gamedev.net. It really isn't that difficult to build a "universal binary" that runs on almost all Linux distributions, and build an installer for it - once you know how. I went through a lot of the same pain they went through (and every other commercial Linux game dev) - trying to find information, catching flak from the community when you ask questions and try to get answers, etc - but I documented everything I learned to save other devs that frustration.

Here's a link to the most up-to-date versions of those articles on my web site.

would be cool if Alex V. Sharp would send them this info, see how that works out for them ?

Alpha #2:

1- I would really appreciate some sort of log or readme about what is new/added/changed, right now its just a mail that I can download it but not what has changed or what you wanted tested....
2- where to report bugs or results ? I can't find a readme about that so hence post it here again.
3- door bug still remains :(
4- locked doors making me dig around them with bombs, think that is new (or did I miss that in A1), cool though
5- new stuff in the dungeon, pillars, lowered floors, again seems new but maybe I was just unlucky on A1 with the random map, either way, looks good

Quoting: "daemon, post: 3414"I will track down that door bug. Do the doors flicker in any way as they're opening? Perhaps multiple doors in the same place?

yes, one door slides over the one that stays in place, its multiple doors on 1 side

Quoting: "motorsep, post: 3405"32 or 64 bit ?

Quoting: "motorsep, post: 3405"Not sure about this one. I really enjoy fluid movement a la Hexen, no matter how much gear you have.
Even Diablo wouldn't slow down your character. It's not a good thing imo.

just my feeling, if you go for a hexen movement then your spot on I would say, if you go for a more dungeon crawler like Ultima Underworld then your to fast, but just me.

Quoting: "motorsep, post: 3405"Could you clarify this please?

fireball matches the movement speed, I will try to explain.... the games moves fast so I see a skelly and its easier to move backwards, charge your fireball and release it then click left mouse to melee, the melee animation takes time while release the fireball does not, now if I could charge melee like the fireball I could move backwards while charging then run in to release....... that is what I mean with it's slow... hope that makes sense :)

Quoting: "motorsep, post: 3405"Use E to pick up items. Just aim at them and press E. We will have crosshair changing its shape when aimed at the pickable item.

I know, but basicly you open chests to get its content so I E to open and move against it to get all, using E to get it slower and I just foud it ackward to just into a tiny chest to get stuff :)

Quoting: "motorsep, post: 3405"Sounds like a bug. Never happened before :/ Could you please post a screenshot or a link to one? Also could you please try reproducing it?

Hope this will do: http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/360/halfdoor.jpg [External Link]
Can reproduce it every single time, started several games fresh

Quoting: "motorsep, post: 3405"Thank you for the feed back!

My pleasure, not sure if this was the correct place though

hefty download, but great speed :)

since I did not see any spot on where to send feedback, I guess here will do ?

- running on opensuse 11.4 with nvidia binairy blob
- movement is really smooth, if your aiming for the dungeon crawler where you carry around stuff and get better (often heavier) armor then it might be a bit to smooth, unless I am naked right now and as I get new stuff my movement will change.
- the movement speeds vs the melee speed don't match, and I ended up mostly doing fireballs
- like the charging of the magic spell, after figuring that out I sort of automaticly expected the same for melee, so get my sword ready to strike.
- would appreciate the picking up from chest a bit smoother, opening with E is fine, but you got to walk into the chest, would be nice to just walk against it
- the doors I opened, the one half opened the other half shows the animation/movement, in other words you can see the edge of the other half of the door move to towards the wall but the door itself stays in place, so got half a door open visually. (got it a screenshot), but can walk through the closed half.
- bombs are really cool, gone places no man has gone before :)
- the fireball options are cool, the guided one especially
- mouse scroll wheel to scroll through the diffrent fireballs/magic spells would be a nice extra

well that my 1st impression, I like it though !!! well worth alpha funding, so go for it those that have not yet !
