Steam on Linux

its the same old dribble from Phoronix
"Valve's Gabe Newell Talks Linux Steam Client, Source Engine", there is not a single quote from Gabe, heck these is not a single picture with even a face of Gabe or anybody else.
" plan to try out Windows 8 simply to see if it's as bad as Gabe states and because he's curious about my opinions of this latest Microsoft operating system.", sure he does........
"From the recommendations I made to Gabe last month for some experienced Linux OpenGL programmers, they already hired one of them for their Linux skills and are still interviewing at least one other from my list. Valve is also hiring more, and it's just not Linux OpenGL -- even if you're just a Linux kernel developer they might be interested in hiring you (I'll be placing some more recommendations to them in the next few days, if you think you might be interested, contact me for possible referral especially if your work has been covered on Phoronix in the past)." this whole part makes me almost puke, why on earth would a company like Valve need a tabloit like Phoronix to get Linux people... and you can be sure that for the next 2 years he will milk this again and again and of course will have to mention that it was because of his recommendation that this all happened...........
sorry but until I see a post FROM Valve this is again just a big article I have little faith in and am glad we have actual things like Desura and Gamolith

Arx Libertatis 1.0 released!

I had some issues with my original CD as it did not hold the ArxFatalis_1.21_MULTILANG.exe they kept referring to in the readme, so installed the cd via crossover/wine, then patched to 1.21 and use the install-copy script.
Have to say it runs really smooth and does not even look as outdated as I had thought it would. But the awkward interface will require some getting use to again, specially the move look/movement mode which we find normal these days but it won't allow you to do all you want, to drag stuff in/out of inventory you need to go another mode.
Exploring wise I think you can compare it best to Ultima Underworld, but the magic system is diffrent, you draw the runs on the screen, thank fully you can draw up to 3 in advance.

Quoting: "Qantourisc, post: 4118"I just ran trough the demo, not long enough to introduce me to some of the game dynamics.
I also fear for the length of the game ...
Might need to lookup some video's online and reviews.

well via crossover, the crossover installation was painless, install grimrock, then install directx modern and that is it, runs very very smooth, had to enable vsync else me card would get to hot :) via wine it also works but the steps are a little different from what I read on the GoG forum. If you dont have crossover (WTH ?!) then you can check out http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=25737 [External Link]
I had forgotten how much I loved the old dungeon master/eye of the beholder games, the puzzles the exploring, took me a total of 14 hours with a self made party on normal mode trying to get as many hidden stuff as I could.
And with the promise of an editor coming out the game will only grow, I can just smell a remake of DM & CSB :)
ps: the GoG 1.1.4 version (GoG installer 1.0.0.8) has a error, remove the D3DX9_43.dll from the Grimrock directory, the Steam version of the version you can get from the developers via Humble Shop does not have this issue.

Cheese talks - Humble Bundle

Besides the competition, which would be good if they did linux games, the humble bundle themselves are getting to frequently released and thus removing some of the "special" from it. I also feel that mixing android and desktop games, or maybe should I say apps and games, won't work in the long run. There are some exceptions like the Cogs which works great on tablet or desktop but others like Snuggle Truck are best for a tablet while Avadon is simply best played on a desktop.
It's sad to hear Basilisk has the same problem as Kot had, good for KoT though that he does not stand alone anymore in this.
As for Liam's question, has my view changed, it has over time, a few things contributed to that:
- KoT story
- the dropping of desura keys (yes its the developers thing but HiB tells them to make a linux client so it can tell them to also add desura)
- to many bundles to little standout games in them
And lets not forget kickstarter eating into my gaming budget.
