The ridiculously large Stardew Valley 1.4 update is out

It has been a full day since this was released everywhere, and still GOG hasn't bothered to make it available to us Linux users. I'm so fecking fed up of being treated like a rat by those guys. Like I just wrote over there, they should be very, very glad there are no real competitors for those of us who care about DRM Free games (since humble bundle is just a glorified steam key reseller now).
I've read the changelog, however, and there are a lot of great stuff in there. The gift thing will be very useful for me, that's for sure. Four times in a row I have managed to give gifts on birthdays that were either hated or disliked :D
Expanded shed will be a huge change for people who like to go large (excuse the pun) on jar + keg making. I'm also seeing loads of quality of life stuff, so that's great. Small things like being able to stack kegs, jars, tappers, fishing bobbers will make it easier to manage inventory space. Not sure if that will apply to weapons and rings too, but that could be a nice change for those day-long mining sessions (although it's rare to get more of one of the same type).
I look forward to actually playing it, but knowing GOG near non-existing Linux support, it may not be until the year 2020. It's so bottomlessly frustrating :(

The sad case of Trine on Mesa and Linux in 2019

Trine 3 worked fine on my pc, but I never finished it. Tried to play it with a friend, like we did the others, but it was such a clusterfuck we gave up. They really messed up on that one.
First two games were fantastic, but it is sad that they have dropped linux now.

Path of Exile continues down the Vulkan path, with a possible port to Linux mentioned

I'd be more excited about this if they hadn't turned the game into a zoom-zoom speedrunner with hordes of microtransactions. The way they kept changing the game with each new "league", I find it hard to think they will go back to the roots with Path of Exile 2.
It was fun when I started playing it, don't get me wrong, but I'm so glad I stopped, and I don't miss it at all.
All that said, it's of course good if they support the game natively on Linux. It was a huge pain to get it running half-decently -- until DXVK turned up.

In any case it's a wonderful game, and it's very impressive that one person can do all that: code, artwork, music, story, etc.
(Believe I got a few legendary fish actually, though I do recall missing some of the items from stuff you dig up. Probably something very rare as I went around digging up loads of 'worms').

Quoting: NezchanIf I remember right, and I may not, the announcement about working with a team was an upcoming thing that hadn't started yet. So with this update, which he's been working on for quite a while, it's the first time he's actually had the team together.Found a relevant bit in other blog posts actually. I suppose he doesn't consider it as technically part of the game.
For the multiplayer update, which came out on PC 2.5 years after the game first launched, a Chucklefish employee did create the multiplayer net-code, but that was the only case where Chucklefish was directly involved in development of the game.
When I first released Stardew Valley, I was a complete novice to the video game industry. Chucklefish, as my publisher, oversaw the distribution, console ports and translations of the game. They set up the official wiki and helped me redesign the website, to great effect. And of course,Tom Coxon did amazing work adding network code to the game, making multiplayer a reality. Not a big deal obviously, it's just something I had read before, although it's a little different now, since the new team (one other person?) will be working directly on the game.

Quoting: NezchanIt's worth noting that Obsidian has recently expressed doubt about Pillars of Eternity 3, stating that they're "re-examing" the game's format.Hadn't heard about that, and that is sad to read. Definitely have more faith in your interpretation than waffles about poor sales for a Kickstarted project that brought in millions. Always sad to see what happens when once independent companies get bought by bigger 'fish'. I fear what will happen to them, and from our perspective, of course that we can forget about Linux releases from now on.

They cite poor sales of PoE 2, but my immediate thought is that MS wants something more console-oriented from them, and probably something with a more reliable return on investment than an isometric RPG. So expect more first-person, action oriented stuff like the Outer Worlds, which itself has no Linux port planned that I'm aware of (and I don't know if it would have even without MS being involved).

Not played this in a while, not since before the multiplayer version came out, so it may be time to try it out again.
I'm a little confused by the note that this is the first time they/he worked with other people on the game though, because I'm pretty confident I read the same thing about the multiplayer feature maybe a year ago (whenever that was developed and released). Maybe just hairsplitting, but figured I'd mention it.
It's a lovely game, and as odd as it must sound to some who hated that aspect, I loved just sitting around and fishing.
Going into the never-ending dungeon was always stressful because you only have so long before the guy passes out (2am iirc), but it was a fun challenge. A good example of what great games can still come out, as long as big developers are not involved.

Liked Wasteland 2 as well, though I never played it once the DC came out (I had some problems with it then, for some reason). Didn't back this game so will wait until it releases now, and probably a good while after that, so they can pump out all the DLC they may want and eventually put that into a complete edition. I fully expect new games, post MS assassination, to not be released for Linux. We can hope of course, but it's pretty naive given their history to expect a Linux release. May as well expect Facebook and Google to stop being dicks.

Kinda the same with Mafia. The first game was one of the best games I've ever played. Such a strong story too.
It really seems like something was lost from the games that came out in that era. Late 90 to early 2000s. Thank goodness Kickstarter projects revived my belief in quality games and we got some jewels from it.

Quoting: BeamboomTotally agree with this, re: Bioshock. LOVED the first game. Such a marvellous atmosphere, and a good story too. The second game lost a little of the magic, but was still fun. Not played the later games, but that first one was marvellous.Quoting: BielFPsI think we all hoped for. Bioshock series really neat the whole "dystopian society" theme.Especially the first game had an amazing atmosphere, man how I loved to explore and unwrap the stories in there.
One of my all time favourites.
