Theme Hospital game engine reimplementation CorsixTH 0.65 is out now
21 Jun 2021 at 3:49 am UTC Likes: 1

Looks like this project is coming along really well. Last time I played the game, some years ago, I preferred to use the original instead, because Corsix still lacked some features. Maybe that isn't the case any more, and it now is even better than the original. Excellent game in any case. Fond memories from when I was a kid, and also in more recent times. The rat hunting mini-game was fun too!

Linux Mint 20.2 has a Beta version now available

I often feel like a bit of an idiot here, or a noob at least, because everybody are so experienced with Linux. I think that experience may change preferences when it comes to distro, tho. From my viewpoint, Linux Mint is the reason I'm on Linux and not on Windows. It was so easy to get used to. It probably looks more like Windows now than Windows itself. And I don't say that as a curse on Linux Mint. It is easy to start out with, and that means the threshold for actually doing the Windows > Linux change is lower, also for people that aren't very computer savvy, or Linux experts. I tried many times with various other distros before, but got confused and it was always so darn hard to figure out what to do when something inevitably went wrong. I'm glad there are many different distros so people get an OS that fits their wishes. But I also think people shouldn't underestimate the importance of "simple" or "stable" distros like Linux Mint.

For me it has been excellent, no doubt about it, and I'm sure there are many others in the same camp :)

Direct3D 9 / 10 / 11 to Vulkan translation layer DXVK 1.9 is out now

Wasn't it announced a while back that DXVK was feature complete, and went into maintenance mode? Was that changed again, or is this counted as part of "maintenance"? Great with new releases in any case. DXVK has been a gamechanger!

OBS Studio 27.0 RC1 out with Wayland support and browser docking on Linux

Have the 26.1 version, but had no problems with recording the other day. I'm on X11. My settings were "Hardware (NVENC)", whatever that means. Looks like a really solid program, and I'm glad there is native Linux support (now) :)

What have you been playing recently, come tell your thoughts

Obvious from forum posts, but I've been playing Hollow Knight for a few weeks. Excellent game, but also brutally difficult. Incredible that it has been made by essentially three people (2 developers + 1 music bloke). Probably not many examples of games that barely got any traction on Kickstarter, yet turned into such a roaring success.

OpenRazer 3.0.0 expands with many new Razer devices supported on Linux

Quoting: NezchanOpenRazer doesn't seem to pick up my Deathadder v2 at all, so Polychromatic has nothing to work with. Bit of a disappointment, really.
Have you tried Razer Genie? I have BlackDeathadder Elite (not sure how different they are), and it shows up in Razer Genie. Can only change RGB stuff and such, not buttons from what I can tell, but the mouse does at least register.

Unfortunately my mouse is messed up on the wheel buttonpress, and it only very rarely registers, which is quite annoying. Was in touch with their support on the same day I bought it, but was told to send it in, halfway around the planet, which I didn't bother with. Would have left me without a mouse for god knows how long, plus shipping costs.

Cool. Looks like I still can't program the buttons on my Razer Deathadder Elite (using Razer Genie), but the colours and all that (pointless) stuff can still be changed on the fly. Maybe the update didn't touch this particular mouse.

Warzone 2100 4.0 gets a second Beta to polish up the huge release with Vulkan

Very good game, altho quite difficult in the later missions. Am glad to see they keep improving the game. Remember reporting some bugs when I played it years ago, but don't know if they ever got rectified. Maybe they have by now :P

Microsoft reportedly have Discord in their sights to acquire

Shit.

Am not using Discord much, but it would certainly be bad news to be wolfed down by Microsoft. They've been very 'hungry' lately. If you can't innovate yourself, just take over those who are (in general), and also remove competitors. It's Microsoft 101. (and many others in fairness, like Google and Facebook).
