Dwarf Fortress on Steam is a smash hit, devs confirm future plans (like Linux support)
8 Dec 2022 at 2:25 pm UTC

I'm temporarily financially indisposed, but I will buy this game early next year if I don't get a steam gift card for xmas.
I don't know if I am able to get into the game, but if I can't get into it I would still happily support the developers with some change (when I am able to).

NVIDIA 510.60.02 driver rolls out for Linux

Hnnnnng... I just want the Vulkan extension that is required for gamescope to work to be added (like the AMD driver has), and the bug they intruduced several versions ago that just broke DOOM Eternal to be fixed. This was fixed in the windows driver the very next update, and the linux driver has had this bug for several months.....

Valve delays Steam Deck, now starts shipping February 2022

Quoting: CatKiller
Quoting: Purple Library GuyA couple extra months could make a significant difference.
It does mean that 5.16 (with lots of handy dandy stuff for Van Gogh and the Deck) will be out before it launches, rather than probably out before it launches. So that's probably made someone a lot more relaxed.
Valve already have Kernel developers in house + they sponsor Collabra to help with kernel development + they are customers of AMD which also has kenrel developers. So Valve is perfectly capable of applying their own patches where some of them are slated for 5.16 to go upstream, if 5.16 wasn't released before the release of SteamDeck. Even when 5.16 releases, they might add additional patches them selves anyway, because I understand that the first futex2 patch which is slated for 5.16 does not do everything Valve and Collabra wanted to do. And the Kerel community asked them to submit smaller patches and get them accepted individually.

Looking forward to these patches hitting upstream anyways. Maybe I will try to wrestle my self away from kernel 5.4 on my gaming computer, or I could just add the futex2 patch my self to 5.4, but I want to stop having to add patches I want to the kernel and use a binary update instead of updating compiling source. Its just I also use some patches to the Nvidia driver which requires an older nvidia driver which requires an older kenrel. shrugs

The reason I wanted to open mine and add an SSD is to have both the 64Gig emmc from the cheapest SKU and more storage through the m.2 slot. This will give me a smaller price I need to present to my wife, and a clear short term update path.

NVIDIA 470.57.02 released as the next stable Linux driver (updated)

Quoting: MohandevirNext up... Nvidia's take on the Steam Deck!
I know this is a joke and or wishful thinking. But the thing people may not realize is that the Nintendo Switch is Nvidia's "answer" or equivalent of the SteamDeck. The Nvidia Nintendo Switch is the Nvidia handheld that can do a few hours of AAA gaming on the go.

Nvidia I am sure has agreed to a non compete agreement with Nintendo, if not, any competition with the N Switch is eating away at Nvidias potential earnings for an Nvidia branded handheld

My gaming pc died, so a game that can run on my less powerful workstation would be nice.

Gyroscope tool JoyShockMapper comes to Linux, Valve adds 'Flick stick' to Steam Input

Quoting: KohriasMight help these console amateurs to get a bit better :) Does not even come close to keyboard + mouse.
This seams to be up in the air still. I am not talking about experience, I want to learn this input method but have only spent 5 minutes, then thinking I need to find an easier game. (tried only in the middle of Doom Eternal on second highest difficulty)

What seams to be the reality:
Thumbstick < Trackpad < Gyro < Mouse

But the skill sealing is yet to be determined with gyro aiming. It has some theoretical advantages. which include: Instant turning (flick stick), and the possibility to use more muscles to get quicker aiming movement combined with maybe easier to do precision aiming.

Still yet to be determined. If anything it could take time for it to be vetted in a competition level, because the hypothetical improvement requires some training and is not as significant like starting to use WASD for movement.

Speaking of WASD, the thumb stick is indeed better than WASD for the same purpose, if the game supports simultaneous mouse and gamepad.

Also this game runs great on a potato machine like the GPD Win or Pocket.
And it also works great using steamplay now, for some reason.
