Doom Slayer Chronicles is a new 'technologically advanced mappack for Doom 2'

Quoting: mondalaciIs this "Accept cookies" bullshit necessary for every single video playback?! I have to press the button, then click on the video. It's a tad overkill, and hurts the usability of the site. What if the site remembered that the user accepted the cookies previously, so this overlay would only be displayed before accepting them?
That would require a cookie, though :D
Well, I personally prefer it that way, as I can easily open the video with newpipe or in private browsing. But I guess it could be an option in the UCP? Well, the website is open source... :P

The gameplay video was great, but I'm confused. Why did I see a UT99 (great game, BTW) flak cannon and rocket launcher? As well as a few other games weapons?
And I would peraonally call this a gzdoom mod, rather than a doom mod ;)

Quoting: g000hI don't have a good idea what the clues are pointing towards, however just sharing a few titles that it "could" be, and I would like. Trying to avoid ridiculous titles which will never come to Linux.

Shadow Warrior 2 (I did manage to shoe-horn the clues onto this title earlier)
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Hitman 2
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War (note that the Definitive Edition is due soon, on Windows)
Left Alive (Square Enix)
Elex
Halo: Master Cheif Collection for sure

;)
Isn't that an XBONE exclusive? It was last time I checked...

Valve are already pushing ahead with updates to Steam Play's Proton with a beta channel

Interesting to read that your controller works with BP but not with games. Is your system updated? What distribution? Have you tried another one [or a Steam flatpak]? What kernel version? Have you tried both with and without the Steam Runtime? Did you disable the Steam overlay? Did you open an issue on Valve's Github? Is it a nonstandard controller?

That's all I can think of in the top of my head :)

Quoting: tuubi
Quoting: Cyba.CowboyHave they (Valve Software) given any indication as to when they're hoping to make this available in the stable version of the Steam client for Linux-based operating systems? Or is this still a mystery?
It's Valve. I bet the answer is "when it's done". Or in this case, as soon as they deem it good enough that it won't be impossible to support.

As of now there are still several stumbling blocks to clear, like the requirement for bleeding edge / beta graphics drivers. They'll also want to expand that whitelist a bit. These things matter if they want to make it easier for gamers to migrate to Linux. This has the potential to result in (undeserved) bad publicity for the operating system so I'd rather they take their time.
Well, maybe they could ship with a recent version of Mesa (+llvm), or even a few ones, and add a bit of logic to determine which verion to use:
  • use a bundled beta release, but only on whitelisted hardware
  • use bundled mesa release only if the kernel is compatible
  • don't use the bundled Mesa release if the one from the host OS is recent enough

I don't see it being that complex to implement... They could probably distribute the nvidia drivers as well, and compile their own kernel modules (could be done trough Steam -> Update graphics drivers, I recall they have this on windows; I'm not sure if it is still present on Linux, I'll have to double check, but it doesn't do anything anyway).

Quoting: elmapuli just wish we could find an way to stop using MS code entirely, even if we arent using the windows kernel and windows, we are still runing direct X and its libraries
Technically, we are just using the APIs. The Direct 3D library isn't the one from Microsoft, but the one that has been implemented in wine/DXVK. So enjoy your Microsoft-free code!

Quoting: GuestIn the original message i read this: "Steam Play whitelisted games will not be offered for purchase or marked as supported on Linux on the Store during the initial Beta period."

Does this mean that after the beta there won't be any indicator to distinguish these wine games from properly supported game? I wouldn't want to buy such games full price, and this will probably make me ditch steam...
Interesting find, thanks for sharing! I disagree on the second part, though. It is still be properly supported by valve, in theory. And they will probably make it a tiny bit different (like the OS logo right to SteamPlay, instead of left).
That also reminds me that platform-specific purchases might come to an end with this.

Quoting: Lolo01I would like to try this beta version, but Steam is downloading again all the Windows games already installed...
Are you sure those are not 0b downloads? Because that's what happens to me with every (re)start of the steam client - suddenly I have a couple dozens of 0b "downloads" of the games installed with proton - I attribute it to behind-the-scenes configuration changes and maybe shader caches, but it sure is annoying.
3 times 15Gb don't need same time as 0b download, so yes i'm sure ;)

Just launched Steam this morning and the same games are downloading fully again !!!
For me, when proton updates, all games show up in the update queue, and indicate the weight of the Proton update (350MiB), but that is only really downloaded once.

Quoting: BrisseDon't quote me on this, but I believe I've read on Feral's Twitter that if you buy a game that was announced but not released by Feral, and you do it from a Linux-machine, they still get their cut, as long as you avoid playing it on a Windows-machine within the first two weeks.
I remember the same! That would make one interesting question...
What I'm curious to know is if you buy it now and play using Proton, does Feral still get their cut? Someone should ask on their Twitter, but I don't have a Twitter-account :)
Yes, the platform you play it more on in the two weeks following the purchase determine the platform that it's counted at. Proton is counted as Linux. This has been stated many times before, and repeated by the Great Liam Himself in the two [bottom] proton articles lately. (a permalink to article updates would be nice, Liam)

The real question here is rather: does the Feral radar count as an official announcement?

Maybe Red Faction: Guerrilla ReMarstered Edition?!
This picture *somehow* makes me think of homefront... There could be something to dig there, esp. WRT China.

However, the part about fire and steel is (I believe) often used as a metaphor for car engines, so it could be a racing title. (I also can't help, but to think about the doom 2016 teaser [External Link] "Fused in an holy union of flesh and metal").

I always smile when I imagine Liam taking these screenshots :D

Though nobody said "Skyrim" yet... Is that because of Photon? So I guess I'll say Skyrim :P

Maybe a title that already has a Mac release? That time around, I don't know, though. I have so many games to play that I haven't been paying attention to the games that were releasing on other platforms :/

Edit: oh, I took the above comment to the letter. Scratch the part about the MAC port, then!

Edit2:
Quoting: LinuxpunkSong from China Crisis... What bigger crisis has China endured than when it was partitioned into Three Kingdoms!!!
Wrong! This is obviously Crysis (I first parsed your post in this way).

Quoting: roothorickWe really should advocate for dynamic linking and shipping the .so's alongside the game, specifically for situations like this. A lot of games won't get updated at all.
https://plus.google.com/+RyanGordon/posts/TB8UfnDYu4U [External Link]
TL; DR: set the game launch options to SDL_DYNAMIC_API=/path/to/my/sdl.so %command%

On your system, that path could be ~/.steam/bin64/libSDL2-2.0.so.0 (adjust as needed for 32 bit games).

Edit: assuming Steam ships the fix...

But yeah, that post is very interesting if you're technical-minded. I actually re-read it, and found out that I misremembered the part about the zlib licence; I thought it forced you to be able to override it. Thanks for the link! I <3 Icculus :D

Reigns: Game of Thrones announced with native Linux support

I'm no GoT fan, nor have I played Reigns yet, but man this sounds fun!

On the upside, hopefully I'll be able to keep up with GoT fans conversations if I play this: Remember when the khaleesi was eaten by Jon's dragon because I swiped left? No? (yeah, I'm making random stuff up, but that's an example).
