Instabuy as far as I'm concerned. Takes me back to the early and pre- Humble Bundle days. I remember a time where there were a couple of companies porting games to Tux, more open source games, (almost) no Triple-A's requiring super fast machines, and when we were hoping the desktop Linux would take over the world ! (instead of having the Linux kernel on top of GAFAM ecosystems everywhere).

Well, everything was not that great, we were still struggling with Flash and drivers. It was sometimes a PITA to get games running (binary distributions and neverending WINE/Cedega/... tweaking). And the early KDE 4 era was such a mess ! But at least I had the time to play all those games and that was good enough to me (better for my focus and overall philosophy) but I'm not representative AT ALL ;)

Meanwhile, back to my Amiga 1200, many games & demos still being released :)

Hi ! That's interesting ! Indeed, the first Discord quote was kinda exaggerated.

Regarding the longer blog post : much appreciated insight. I don't know to what extent a game HAS to be maintained infinitely. Personally, if I were a game developer, I would actually feel bad for releasing something that never ends and would make people play for years & thousands of hours. It's just a past time, after all, we have a real life !

According to him, MT is now only 3 persons ? It sounds as if MT had been idle while EE was doing all the job. Strange. Sure, EE did a great job, but the core game we all know and love is the work from MT.

Also, I don't understand why they would want to "make room" for their upcoming game, which actually seems to be very different.

Anyway. Maybe, if the community complains, they'll actually change their minds ? The PR sounds like there is a plan for the staff of EE. Is it the case ?

(glad there are several small other French companies making nice games, BTW)

DEMON'S TILT gets updated for Steam Deck to solve graphical issues

Ah, clearly a reference to Devil's Crush on the PC Engine / Megadrive, great !

My absolute favorite is still Slam Tilt (on the Amiga), 26 years later. Would love to see something similar to it. It was brilliantly designed and super fun.

Feral Interactive have no plans to update their Linux ports for Steam Deck

Yep. Times change.

I used to think the state of Linux gaming was "perfect for me" 5 or even 10 years back because some indie devs did make the effort to port to Linux and brought superb titles. It was closer to my vision of what gaming should be - not a gigantic industry, titles not requiring super powerful machines. Not too many of them, but quite a few gems in most genres. And I used to buy directly from the devs, not funding some huge companies.

Now that basically everything works, it's just another way to get any game working. Of course, it's way easier & better for the consumer. But still, I don't feel like contributing anymore now. This whole Proton thing made me want to upgrade my machine and buy huge GPUs - exactly what I had been fighting for in the past 15 years. Fortunately, I could eventually get rid of it all !

Of course, I still have the choice to only get a couple of games from a couple of indie devs directly - through itch for instance. I just have to feeling Linux gaming was a sort of alternate universe, which induced some specific behaviors.

Oh well, there are more serious problems in the world.
Still, I regret the time the first Humble Indie Bundle was released.

Microsoft Edge comes to Linux in October as a preview

I guess the more the better too.

Although my concern is really to make Mozilla more powerful.

For the same reason I don't only get a game for the induced experience, but because of : its development model, if it makes us more clever, if it doesn't incite us to get powerful / polluting machines, if it doesn't have stupid addiction mechanisms...

But of course, the fact I personally don't buy AAA titles won't make a difference. But the fact Mozilla can sustain itself can make a difference.

Cool !
Reminds me of some people who wrote a funny beat'em up for a French candidate in 2017 election (http://www.fiscalkombat.fr/ [External Link] :-)

One of our favourite games Slay the Spire is getting even better on Linux with a new beta up

I have a controller issue with this game, the "RB" (or RT I don't remember) used to save & quit the game doesn't work, and apparently I'm not the only one. Any idea ? Using an XBox gamepad (works in other games). (Steam version)

Maybe the new beta does fix it !

The emulation and media player front-end RetroArch just had a huge new release

Hmm, maybe ESC to quit the emu makes sense when RA is invoked directly (through the shell or another frontend). Maybe it is the reason why it was the former default. Anyway it should detect if it's been run with arguments or not.
