Fancy a free permanent copy of PAYDAY 2? [Steam] Well here's your chance as the developers are throwing 5 million copies away on Steam.

Yes, this is really a thing.

They even made a video about it, as they are making an "Ultimate Edition" of the game:

They have removed all the DLC for sale, since this new edition will include all DLC. This sounds good, since there was an insane amount of it.

Enjoy the free game everyone! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

The last time I played this game I wasn't able to play with my friends because the Linux version was behind the Windows version. I don't think they care too much about us.

I've read that the single player is awful and the level of toxicity that I have encountered in every single multiplayer game I have ever tried has guaranteed that I only play single player games anymore. I think this is a cool offer but I will be passing for that reason.

Quoting: fcastilloI just got this game a couple of months ago but never played it because I couldn't change the monitor where it opened. It was annoying and ultimately unplayable. Hopefully this new edition will fix any remaining issues on linux.
You know there's plenty of ways to move a game from one to another right? KDE for example you can just drag a fullscreen game from one monitor to another.

Well, that's true for KDE. On Ubuntu/Unity it's a little more complicated but there's a way that doesn't always work with all windows using the "Place Windows" plugin in Compiz. On Gnome Shell I haven't been able to find any way to do this yet. So changing your window manager just so you can play a game is not really a solution for me.

Look for devilspie2, that can do this and other stuff too.

For example:
if (get_window_name()=="Payday 2") then
   set_window_position2(1920,0)
end

That will move a Window with the name "Payday 2" to 1920px from the very left of your desktop. This will be done the moment the Window opens up, so you don't have to interact with it, as long as the devilspie2 daemon is running.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Thanks for the heads up Liam! :D
Thanks for the tip!
Added to my Steam Linux account...
(Not You, my Steam Windows account. No this time.. We have enough with the recent Fallout4)

Been meaning to pick this up for some time but people generally warn against it because the community is generally not tolerant of new players.

That might've been during either the Hoxtons Housewarming Party or the Search for Kento events as Matchmaking broke, and I was the guy who had to fix it. The Linux Port has DLC and near-feature parity with the Windows version.

It was during a free weekend. I wanted to try out the game with my friends so we could figure out whether we wanted to buy the game or not. We didn't because of the incompatibility. But thank you for the information - I just registered the game to my account and will try again.

I'm sensitive to such behaviour as well. But I had a very good time with Frozen Synapse with the friendliest community by a wide margin I've ever met in a competitive online game. So... don't give up.

...but I didn't pick up Payday either.
