Abandon Ship [Steam, Official Site] looks exciting, a naval exploration game that is styled like an oil painting. Come check out the latest video!

This new video shows of the exploration side of it, with them already showing off various other elements of the gameplay in previous videos. What's really unique, is that area area is inside a picture frame as the blank canvas fog fades away to show what you've explored. Travelling between areas is done by unlocking a gate outside the frame, which does look pretty sweet.

I love how the weather and the environment will directly affect battles. A stormy sea will batter your ship with waves and a volcano will send flaming rocks in your direction. It sounds like there will be lots to appreciate in the game.

The developer personally told me today that the Linux version is still fully planned after the full release. Good news, as it looks awesome.

Will you pick up a copy when it releases for Linux?

Some similarities to Windward (a sailing game, also on Linux), but this game looks better and has more content. I'm quite interested in this.

As a fan of Patrick O'Brian's "Aubrey-Maturin" series of books, any nautical themed game gets my immediate attention, and this one looks quite good. This may be the closest thing we have to a modern remake of "Sid Meier's Pirates!".

If there won't be any unexpected hiccups, I'll buy this game at release day.
