Interested in game development? Godot Engine is a constantly improving free, open source and high quality game engine and one developer is trying to push out more professional content to help people using it.

Nathan Lovato has been working on GDQuest, a free Software project and a social company that started off as a little YouTube channel focused on game art tutorials. They later moved onto Krita as their "first taste" of free software, and then they moved onto Godot Engine and Linux too. Since then they've continued to expand, putting out a ton of free tutorials and tools for developers over on the GDQuest website, which includes plenty of open source stuff.

They're now back on Kickstarter, after having three previously successful campaigns to produce content with their next— Godot 2D Secrets: Level Up your Game Creation Skills. With it, they plan to create an "extensive collection of short tutorials" and they are creating open source demos along the way, with a plan to have most of the tutorials freely available to view on their website. Some of what they have planned to cover includes:

  • Turn-based RPG combat with an Active Time Battle (ATB) system.
  • Real-time simulation of a complex game world.
  • Visual novels and dialogues.
  • Modular character animation.

If you want Godot Engine to become popular, especially with it being both FOSS and properly cross-platform, things like this are absolutely needed.

See the Kickstarter here. They have around 13 days to hit €12,000.

Thanks for the info, just backed! The tutorials I watched from GDQuest were really well done most of the time.

The campaign's goal has already been reached!
