Windows compatibility tool Wine 6.5 is out now

By - | Views: 19,215

Not an emulator but a compatibility tool that translates Windows calls into language Linux can understand, Wine 6.5 is officially out now as the latest development release.

For newer readers and Linux users here's a refresher - Wine is a compatibility layer built for operating systems like Linux, macOS and BSD. The idea is to allow other platforms to run games and applications only built and supported for Windows. It's also part of what makes up Steam Play Proton. Once a year or so, a new stable release is made.

Here's what's new in Wine 6.5:

  • OpenCL support updated to version 1.2.
  • More support for IE compatibility modes in MSHTML.
  • More windowless RichEdit work.
  • A few more WinRT library stubs.

25 bugs were also noted as solved. Some of the bugs are new, some are old that got fixed somewhere along the way. These include marking issues solved for the likes of: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, Outlaws, League of Legends, Steam, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, Guild Wars 2 and more.
