By - | Views: 27,087

Valve has treated Steam Deck players to another fresh Client Beta upgrade, with brings with it a number of useful enhancements. If you wish to try it out you can try either Beta or Preview by going into Settings > System and changing the Steam Update Channel drop-down.

Here's what's new:

General:

  • Improved Media page performance for users with a large number of screenshots
  • Restyled the Media page to show more screenshots at one time
  • Fullscreen screenshots can now be scrolled through by pressing left/right
  • Fixed an issue loading game carousel items on the home recommended tab
  • Fixed an issue where the on-screen keyboard would not type into chat tabs

Here's a look at the new Media page:

Overhauled the Virtual Menu feature in Steam Input:

  • The visual style of virtual menus has been updated
  • Virtual Menus can now be named and moved between difference sources or converted between menu types
  • Bindings such as keyboard keys or gamepad buttons will now display glyphs when the user has not manually picked an icon
  • Icons and colors can now be assigned in the configurator
  • Menu items can now be easily reordered
  • Responsiveness of the cursor and general performance has been improved

Can "Media page" play music or videos? I think that it cannot do it.
The desktop steam has a music player to listen the game music of some games that can be bought.

Actually, a music player doesn't seem to be built into the deck[1].

Sadly my current favourite media player, Strawberry, didn't fit the deck so well once in "game mode" (used as a launcher). However, I found the best one fit for launching from the decks "game mode" was Elisa[2] it's pretty lightweight and can be used easily from game mode. It was a good solution for simply playing music.

Otherwise of course you can use any other music player via desktop mode if you prefer!

[1] Or at least, I haven't found it? Someone should correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to know where it is!

You are correct, there is no media player yet. If you attempt to navigate to a soundtrack on Deck, then you will get an error saying that Steam soundtrack support has not been added yet.
